Two very consistent coaches. Hope one of them is in our future eventually.

We have advanced past a regional just one time in the last 7 years. We have gone 0-2 in our last two regionals. This is a program that is barely making an impact in the postseason.

The last time we did advance, Cliff Godwin was on the staff. He's made a huge impact on East Carolina, which had never done anything in baseball. He would be my choice for our next coach. I think there will be a problem when Bianco's son goes to LSU. Bianco does not want to coach any of his sons, but our fans will not take kindly to them playing against Ole Miss, either. Perhaps Mike won't want to go through that and will step down. If that happens, we should go all out to hire Godwin because I think McDonnell is comfortable at Louisville.

No way Dan comes here. He recently signed a 10 year 10 million dollar contract. We can't match that I wouldn't think. Wish we would go after Godwin. Our talent right now isn't very good. Think both Tulane and Boston College had more talent than us, and even Utah had better starting pitching. We need to start recruiting south Mississippi. Both state and USM do a better job recruiting Mississippi than we do. Think it's time for Mike to move on, need new blood.

I think a lot of it is how we recruit.. We sign a lot of kids that we know will be drafted in the first round.. Need to find kids that fit what we are trying to do, but are not sure fire first 3 round guys.. The other thing, what is our team identity? I think State does a good job with that.. When they killed the bats, Cohen recruited to play small ball.. They juiced the ball a little and totally messed up what he recruited. Obviously he is getting it worked out.

Every team has players drafted, so I don't buy that. We seem to miss on to many players. Don't seem to coach up the players. Look at how bad our fielding was this year. Our starters couldn't get out of the 5th inning. Not enough hitters on the team. The team couldn't hit a breaking ball. We walked way too many batters, and our batters took way too many called 1rst strikes. And we finished 7th in the league, and for the second straight year, went 0-2 in regionals. We're putting 13 million into the program, need better than this. But the bottom line is our recruiting is sorely lacking. Need to recruit the state MUCH better. And we need to get rid of Lafferty, which is something I don't think Mike will do.

From another board.

We are 13-16 vs non-#4 seeds In Regionals since 2000
we are 1-2 vs the #1 seeds in Regionals since 2000
we are 6-5 vs the #2 seeds in Regionals since 2000
we are 6-9 vs the #3 seeds in Regionals since 2000
we are 9-3 vs the #4 seeds in Regionals since 2000, but we've lost to a #4 seed in both of last two Regionals.

Again, from another board. And as u can see, as late as 1972, we were basically the baseball power of the conference.

Interesting point to be made from this data. If you look at the schools and how many times since 2000 they have made it to the Super Regionals, it tells you we are an average team. Here are the numbers which include the year 2000:

Ole Miss - 1
MSU - 2
Bama - 0
Ark - 4
Auburn - 0
FL - 5
GA - 4
LSU - 7
MO - 0
SCAR - 6
TN - 2
TAM - 1
Vandy - 3
KY - 1

This shows that either our recruiting is not up to par with the top SEC teams, our coaching is below par in coaching kids up, or both. Statistics don't lie - they only point out areas that need improvement.

That's not counting this year, state has been 3 times in the last 6 years under Cohen. 2011, 2013 and this year.

Super Regionals Started in 1999. I looked up the stats and we were in the Super Regionals in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2014. Five times by my count but someone else will have to look and see if I missed one. And of course we made it to the CWS in 2014 to the semi-finals.

I don't think the stats above are correct and that was what I was basing my comments on before my brain started functioning again. ;)
