From the CA here in Memphis.

Corey Jeffries, the father of the top-rated basketball prospect in the Memphis area, wanted to make sure one point was clear before launching into a critique of Coach Tubby Smith earlier this week.

D.J. Jeffries, considered the No. 5 recruit in the 2019 class by Scout.com, grew up a Tigers’ fan. He is a cousin of the Lawson family, lives just 30 minutes away from campus in Olive Branch, Miss., and went to middle school in nearby Cordova.

So Corey Jeffries can’t understand why Smith has only spoken to his son once since taking over at Memphis last April. Or why his son hasn’t been invited to attend a Tigers’ game during that time. He asks these questions because hardly a day goes by that Ole Miss Coach Andy Kennedy doesn’t call. Sure, Jeffries has already attracted interest from college basketball bluebloods such as Kentucky. But Kennedy knows everyone in the Jeffries family at this point.

“He’s not aggressive enough. He doesn’t come hard enough,” Corey Jeffries said of Smith while watching D.J. finish up a workout with Team Penny Tuesday night. “You may have a chance, but you got to show interest. If you’re not aggressive, you’re not going to get these kids. We’re not getting the attention from Memphis that we’re getting from others.”

AK the last 2 years has been going up against the blue bloods of basketball. He lost a player to Duke last year, and is going up against Ky. for at least 2 players now. Jefferies is one, here's the other that I know about. This is from a basketball report from Ben on scout. I've found Ben does a better job than anyone on the other boards when it comes to basketball coverage.

Another target is Pittsburgh graduate transfer Cameron Johnson. Johnson, a three, is a 6-8 redshirt sophomore who averaged 11.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last season. He was an efficient scorer, shooting 51 percent from the floor and 42 percent from 3 on 6.8 attempts per game. He made 81 percent of his free-throw attempts. Johnson redshirted in his first year at Pitt in 2013-14 and only played eight games in 2014-15, which helps clarify why the NCAA granted him an extra year of eligibility. He already holds offers from 20 schools, including Arizona, Texas, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio State and Oregon. Ole Miss is going in to see him Friday. The competition is going to be stiff, but Ole Miss has an in, so we’ll see.

If Lockhart becomes an assistant coach I will have to really support the BB team. Always like him and he knows what it takes to play under the goal. Would be an upgrade in the coaching staff.
