Just a running thread to keep up with notes and final scores from the Irvine Regional matched up with the Oxford Regional.
UC-Irvine just defeated Fresno State 4-2. Earlier Virginia defeated San Diego State despite All-American Stephen Strasburg's 15 strike out effort for SDSU (7th time of his career he'd done that!). No wonder he's the consensus #1 draft pick for this year's MLB draft. UVA won 5-1 in that one.
So far this one's going the way we expected it to.

Ballgame, your defending 2008 National Champs have been eliminated.
SDSU 4 Fresno St 1
By the way if you have ESPNU the Irvine and UV game will be on @ 10. They are showing the LSU v. Baylor game right now, 2 to 2 in the bottom of the ninth.

WOW, great news. If UVA can hold on, then Irvine will have to face San Diego State tomorrow and then play UVA again later tomorrow even if they are successful in winning their first game tomorrow. That should give the advantage to UVA since they will be fresh while playing a team that has already exhausted themselves in the first game that day. Even if Irvine wins tomorrow, they would have to beat UVA again on Monday. While not a cinch that UVA will ultimately win, I am encouraged with this 5-0 score. Come on UVA!!

I'm not excited about playing UVA, even if it is at home. But as long as our guys continue to play with the same drive I've seen the past two days, I think we have as good a shot at making Omaha as either UCI or UVA.
BUT first things first, we got one more game to win tomorrow afternoon.

By the way, the UVA game is now in the top of the 8th and they are still leading 5-0. Go Cavaliers.

UCI or UVA, either way I hope they're still playing ball on Monday and we're not. 8)
