Remember that deuce, joe gunn combo?I think this years better
Moderator: Rebel Security
Remember how we rebel fans would go to the vaught in the late 90's knowing that at even if we didn't win we would at the least rack up rushing yards with that one two punch of joe gunn and DEUUCE? I personally think those days have returned except maybe even better. We have boldin at the starting position and hes improved in every way since last year. After him we have 3 or 4 other backs that could all start somewhere. We should have over 150 rush yards every saturday. What are your concerns about the o line? The one thing that could cost us a few games is if our line under achieves. Our whole 09 success hangs on the shoulders of snead being able to sit in the pocket and our rbs being able to slice and dice. The question I have is do we have the personnal to handle the tough sec defensive lines?

I don't know why you are being so hard on the guy. The backfield of Devon Thomas, Brandon Boldin, Enrickey Davis and Chordera Eason is going to be awesome! Combine them with Jevon Sneed at quarterback and no one can contain our offense.
This is one offense that I bet Eli would have loved to have had around him. And he wouldn't have lost that fateful LSU game, either.
That said, The SEC West is the power of the conference this year. Seems to always revolve around that way for us, when we have the most promising chance of hitting it big, we also have the most difficult task ahead of us.
My ultimate answer: They can. They must. They better. And I think (hopehopehopehope) they will. Because THIS time, they have a real coach, a real OC, and a real DC. When's the last time you could say that?

And the defense led by Gerald Poe
u guys....
my main concern for our Oline is filling Mr. Oher's shoes and the depth ( or lack of).
Still as Bob Reb said - we have SEC talent, a Sec quality head coach, the SEC's best (imo) OC, and an honest-to god-real-time SEC DC - all of whom can coach, so no excuses. Can't remember when OM had Offense & Defense at the same time. As to the SECW being tough this year, if we want to be the best, we have to beat the best. I say we will. 8)

Funny, as soon as I finished reading the title of this post I knew immediately that you were the author.
No one, and I mean NO ONE, will ever be "Joe Gunn" fast again. And a better 1 - 2 punch I don't think we'll ever see.
Let me clarify, we will have no problems running this year, and we might even break a rushing record or two, but as far as combination of skat speed, and bruising but still fast power, there may never be another combo like it.

You are right. But we did go 4-1 against the West last year.BobReb wrote:This is one offense that I bet Eli would have loved to have had around him. And he wouldn't have lost that fateful LSU game, either.

I think Sowell will be okay, but I kind of wonder why the "other" Jerry has not been moved to the left (or has that taken place?). I look for this to happen sooner as opposed to later. It is very important to protect Jevan's blindside.
As for run blocking? I think we are good. Bolden is elusive enough to do a good impression of BJGE. Davis and Eason can do alot for themselves in the power game...Dexter will do his thang....I do not at all sweat the run blocking potential for our team.
I worry slightly about the pass block, as I said before, however if Jevan is getting tagged, I almost guaruntee a position switch. Oher was awesome in his ability to protect, and that is the big hole, but I trust Nutt & Co to make the necessary adjustments.

I don't know about the best 1-2 punch we have had, but I think this is the best 1-2-3-4 punch we have had in a long long time.

OMNOB, Jerry will stay put because he is the best run blocker we have and the right tackle is the spot for run blocking. Sowell will do fine at LT and be backed up by Massie when he arrives. The first two games will help our inexperienced players get some needed experience and depth will start increasing on the line. If this does happen, we could be in for a very good year. Then it will depend on the defense to stop opponents and special teams to give us field position.
Ive been waiting this whole time for J Jerry to be moved but he is staying at RT. The reason, I dont know other than he is a much better run blocker than pass blocker. Dude is nasty though, but he will never be at LT. I guarantee it. If they wanted to give him a shot they already would have. But believe he is easily the best lineman on the team.OMNOB wrote:And you might be right Ms Bleu.bleuwolfe wrote:u guys....![]()

I am with you wholly. Double J is the best that we have to offer on the OL. Again, I think that we will be fine in run offense, and that the afore mentioned Double J will no doubt stablize (sic) that.BigTrev34 wrote:Ive been waiting this whole time for J Jerry to be moved but he is staying at RT. For the poster that said Sowell and Massie will fill the Oher void.....
....I hope you are right.
This is Sowell's job right now. Massie scares me. LT is a very, very difficult position to play. Oher did not even play that position in the beginning.
I guess that I like very much to see the head of Jevan Snead propped up above his neck. I am wondering, just a little, if Sowell and company can protect him.
