Thank you for what you do. As a father of a high school drumline member, I know how much hard work you guys put in. Games would not be games without you.

I read it over on the OMSpirit pay site. Several of the members said it was happening but it has since been proved false by Pete Boone. Don't know where it originated.

i would like to thank Chucky_38 for clearing that up and thank God this story is false. what suprised me the most was that i was the only one who asked about the authenticity of this rumor while it seems everyone else launched into a "the sky is falling" debate on the finer points of political correctness regarding whether it is alright to say "the South Will Rise Again". i can tell from past experience that there is definitely valuable inside information from people who work close to the athletic department on this site, but don't assume something is true until it has been verified as a reliable credible source. i think that Rebel Nation and the members of this message board can take a collective sigh of relief. also thank you for your comments about my membership in the band.

Even if it isn't true at this time, there is no reason to avoid the discussion. It's good for the mind, soul, and university.
I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance.

I'd like to know who stated that the chanting of TSWRA is a tradition. That started while I was in school and I graduated in 02(grad in 04). That hardly constitutes a tradition if you ask me.

It doesn't matter your intentions. YOU KNOW people don't like it. Your alumni don't appreciate, the school administrators don't appreciate it, and it sets a horrible example for the young Rebels in the crowd.

I will say what I have said the entire time I have been a student and part of Alumni relations in my fraternity, and it applies to certain people who think I need to go to State for being for this chant.

F the Alumni.

It's our student section, we'll chant whatever we want. Get our mascot back and we'll negotiate. :/

Is that the educated response you mentioned? If so, someone didn't get their money's worth at the education store.
You've just got to learn from the wrong things you've done. I came off the rebound, started looking around, figured out it's time to have a little fun.

Macot: Gone. Slavery: Gone. Old South: Gone. From Dixie with Love: Soon to be gone. Thanks to you and your frat buddies. You are helping Ole Miss become The University of Mississippi Raiders. Keep it up! How bout dressing up as a Colonel Rebel and waving a giant Confederate Banner at games? And strapped to your side could be a whip! And maybe some chains as well. Every good plantation owner has whips and chains! We must preserve these traditions or Ole Miss will become just another well respected, profitable school! And we can't let that happen.

I think the first column I send to the DM for the fall will recommend the entire student section bring terrible-towel sized Rebel flags and wave them around for every kick off. Maybe even publish the words for Dixie so everyone can sing along. If you would've been more..I don't know, reasonable about it and stop acting like its the death knell of the University, I might've written something pro-Alumni stance.

Just for you guys. 8)

If you want to go back and analyze all my posts (last count I was 4 shy of 5,000 of them) you will find that there has been no stronger defender of our traditions than me and no one who gets more *beep* off as they have gradually eroded at the behest of a spineless administration...but what you and your fellow students are doing is 1) NOT a tradition and 2) INDEFENSIBLE and reprehensible, no matter how you want to spin it. You are giving them the fuel they need to complete their PC agenda.

F the Alumni. You're pretty much talking to the majority of the board here. You do realize that?

Do you know why there is a student section? Because we can pen you up and laugh at you like monkeys in zoo. If you think TSWRA is a smart, clever cheer you are wrong. I hate to say it your $20 a game for tickets don't pay for squat. It cost more to clean up your section than your section is worth. I can promise you this, I catch someone chanting TSWRA in my section, I'll ask them politely not to do it. IF they continue, nice and the idiot will be gone. I will not need help from a cop.

I got it, how about a chant to stop you snot noses from throwing bottles on the field. I'm ashamed about how the student section acts, it wasn't cool to throw crap on the field when I was there, ain't cool now. My group used to chase guys like you out of "our" section. By and large Ole Miss students are a bunch wusses, couldn't fight there way out of a wet sack. But from 20 yards away throw junk from the stands you think your pretty tough.

Who said it's "your" mascot? When you graduate and pay the freight then you can claim something. You are a student, you don't matter until you earn your degree.

From where I sit you have nothing to negotiate with. Your chant, please.
