Stadium expansion being considered now by Boone
Moderator: Rebel Security
Well, guys, I would love to see the stadium bowled in, but don't you think it would be a waste of money if we didn't put butts in the seats of what we have now? I mean, that is like some of the yuppies I see driving Chevy Suburbans because they need the room for their 1 kid. 8O
Point is, if we don't fill the 62K capacity that it will fit now (for SEC games anyway), then what good will it do. I feel we will fill it a few times this year, but that needs to continue for 2-3 years before adding on. THEN, in the meantime, really look at many designs from many architects to really make it look attractive to young recruits. Just my opinion. Not like Boone is going to call me to get my approval!!

It would be something that Boone would take credit for doing whether it is truly need or not. That's after he learns that neither Southeastern La. and Northern Ari. are FBS teams.

Dave, there was a discussion of the Jumbotron on the Spirit public board several months ago. Several posters said that that board was deliberately constructed so that it could be moved----that it was not embedded in concrete for that very purpose. I don't know if that is true or not, but that would make sense. When they built the Jumbotron, there had been a boatload of discussion about bowling in the stadium, so those in control had to know that they could have that expansion problem confront them in the very near future. Just based on that, I figure that there would be a way to bowl in the stadium and be able to move the Jumbotron so as not to interfere with whatever we wanted to do in that bowling in move.
I'll admit that the above is a statement of faith and not based on knowing the facts. From a personal preference standpoint, I would like to see our seating capacity increased to around 72,000 if we are going to the trouble to expand again. That would at least increase our capacity enough to compete with the medium-sized SEC grouping.

There is nothing in the article that even suggests that this is going forward; it is just the first time that Boone has publicly stated that it MAY be needed in the near future. Everyone else on here is just throwing around ideas on how it should be done when it/if it happens.Heath wrote:Well, guys, I would love to see the stadium bowled in, but don't you think it would be a waste of money if we didn't put butts in the seats of what we have now? BTW, we weren't selling out 10 years ago when the plan to bowl in the SEZ first came to light, but yet we had no problem getting the majority of those new seats filled.

I am basing my statement on the movability of our board on something that was told to me by one of the guys who actually helped develop the bid that was put in by Capturion, the company that bid against Dak. Not saying it is the gospel truth or that there wasn't some changes made to those plans once the contract was awarded, but based on his expertise on what plans he saw, it can not be easily moved. Not saying impossible, just not easy.RichmondVAReb wrote:Dave, there was a discussion of the Jumbotron on the Spirit public board several months ago. the whole stadium can be moved...one dump truck at a time...reusing it could be a problem.olemsdave76 wrote:I am basing my statement on the movability of our board on something that was told to me by one of the guys who actually helped develop the bid that was put in by Capturion, the company that bid against Dak.
