1. First...can't really draw anything from the win itself. SELU was just not in our league. Who knows...maybe that does mean something....but their players simply out matched in every position on the field...the game was predictable.
2. We were pretty vanilla last night....you could see Houston was working fine tunning basics. I did not think we executed partiularly well at times....but I sort of expected that. When you play a team like that....you usually play down...not up. Snead is still not on his game.....If we have a chance to win Thursday...he will have to be more accurrate with his passes.
3. Bolden is without a doubt our best runner...he is powerful, and runs with vision. Davis is second....but runs with less vision. Eason...is clearly third now. I also like seeing Bolden in the wild rebel some....It gives it a different twist.
4. Hard to tell about the OL....that look dominating for most part last night...but they were suppose to.....I still have concerns with this area.
5. Before this game...I had some concerns at WR....WE have some good WR's....but something was mission.... With the loss of Wallace....no one seem to be filling his shoes. I like shea Hodge...but he is not eye popping good....not like Wallace...JMO. But I found the guy who is eye popping good....he is not experienced....but by Mid season....he will be a force on offense..and that guy is Pat Patterson. That guy is scary good...and not near as good now as he is going to be. Pat is the missing link on offense...in my opinion.
6. Do we have another punter?
7. Love marshea....but do we have another returner? This was just one game...so I hope corrections are being made. With that said....I have a question.... Do the punt coverage team have to give room for the ball to be caught? It looks like to me Marshea was not given room to catch the ball on at least occassion.
8. Jerrell Powe is the most dominating DL player we have....not even close. Good to see him starting to live up to expectations. Man I love watching him play.
9. Our Freshman class is scary good....... so many play makers. I counted three true freshman scoring last night. Speed speed speed.
10. Defense played really well last night...gave up a couple plays...but really....that is going to happen...hard to tell against last night competition....but grade of A so far.
11. Really great crowd last night...threat of rain hurt a little...but I thought the stadium, atmosphere and fans were very very good for a Div II team. excellent.
12. Season starts Thurday....if you get by this team...then it kinda sets up the biggest game in Oxford....maybe ever against Alabama....I think it will be bigger than 2003 LSU game. Got business to take care of....but Thursdays game is big. 8O

everybody wants to write off Eason...mistake.
Too weak to make it to the game, but the field turf looked great on my pc. Crowd was great.
In three weeks we will be ranked where we belong, one way or the other

My thoughts on the SELA game...
1) We took care of business and showed our future opponents nothing
2) It is over and needs no analysis
Gamecocks taste like Chicken! 8O

I believe that rule has been relaxed.1OLEMISSREBEL wrote:OK someone help me and RUREADY understand.....I too thought players returnng punts/ ko were supposed to be given " room" to catch the ball....

I really don't think I can add anything to this assessment, other than to add that after the game I was able to talk to Vincent Sanders for a long time and get a feel for his recruitment...he was holding his cards pretty close to the vest and wasn't really saying much other than he was having a really good time. After I walked away Clayton Moore caught me and told me that he was already a lock to sign with us in Feb. That made me feel much better.ruready wrote:1. Apparently so...I have noticed with other teams this rule has been relaxed... I guess the 2 yd rule was just too much room.rebelliousb wrote:I believe that rule has been relaxed.1OLEMISSREBEL wrote:OK someone help me and RUREADY understand.....I too thought players returnng punts/ ko were supposed to be given " room" to catch the ball....

I agree with most of that but def not about MARSHAY.. He had a really bad game as punt returner last night but he has been way too solid for years. Wayyyyy too solid to write him off after a game vs SE LA that we won by 46... I mean think all the way back to the 06 eggbowl it was MARSHAY who returned a punt pretty late for a go ahead td.. The guy is a competitor, I'm sure he will make a big play Thursday that makes you forget the muffs...
No matter how well the coaches prepared the guys, there is NO WAY they were as focused last night as they will be Thursday...and I have no problem with that. They did not need to be. I actually wanted them to not click on all cylinders last night...aqain it gives coaches the ammo to use to prepare them for conference play.MageeRebel425 wrote:I agree with most of that but def not about MARSHAY.. Marshay is absolutely a stud. You saw how he plays in prime time at the Cotton Bowl.Thursday is prime time
till after this week I will not know how good this team is. Arkansas beat Mo State pretty good also there first game but it didnt expose there defensive secondary. Thats what concerns me. How good is our defense especially our secondary. We havent played anyone yet to show that.
