Maybe mid season predictions. But whatever.

Don't think I like that bowl or matchup. I still think we have a great shot at the Cotton Bowl again. Unless something silly happens at Auburn. We should be better than LSU though.
How many people would really want to see Ole Miss and Wisconsin play it out?

I think we have to win 7 to become bowl eligible this year.JustBlues wrote:but Cap One, Outback and Cotton are the good ones that we have a shot at. I'd be happy with any, especially if in the process we improve on last year's record. actually by beating Auburn this week, we will become bowl eligible.

yep think thats right. B/c of the two D-2 games we have. Which is still dumb that Nutt didnt get someone else.deadheadrebel wrote:I think we have to win 7 to become bowl eligible this year.JustBlues wrote:but Cap One, Outback and Cotton are the good ones that we have a shot at. No that is not right. We already have the lone D2 (FCS) win that counts. So, yes, a win this week and we are bowl eligible. The game with Northern AZ will not matter toward a bowl.Goroth wrote:yep think thats right. B/c of the two D-2 games we have. Also, Nutt doesn't negotiate the schedule. That would fall on Boone ultimately.

Thought I read some where along the way. That Nutt didn't want to play some certain team or two that was available.ReservoirReb wrote:No that is not right. Either way I don't know what I was thinking. Since you have to count the first one before the second. So yea six wins is on the line. Lose here means we have to wait two weeks before we can see it again.
to be bowl eligible, you must win six games, only one of which can be an FCS game. That means that you must win at least five FBS games and one other that can be FCS or FBS. We have won five, one of which is an FCS team. That means that we have to win at least one more against an FBS opponent. If we win against Auburn, we will be bowl eligible no matter what happens the rest of the year. If we beat no one else this year but NAU, then we will not be bowl eligible. We need one more win as long as it is against an FBS team.

We have to get to 7 wins to become bowl eligible this season. Its been discussed at length by our game day radio announcers, on the Houston Nutt show, and on Hotty Toddy Hotline. Just sayin.......but, yes....thinking it out..if we win tomorrow, we ARE bowl eligible because that would give us the 5 "real" victories and one "Div II" victories.....we WILL be at 7 after next weekend if we take care of business tomorrow.
we were to beat Auburn tomorrow and then the unthinkable happen and lose the rest of our games including NAU, we would be bowl eligible and due to SEC contracts we WOULD receive a bowl bid. It would be extremely embarrasing, but that is what would happen. You must win six games ONE of which can be against an FCS team. Since we have already beaten one FCS team, the NAU does not affect our bowl eligibility one way or the other. One more win against an FBS team makes us bowl eligible. That win can come this weekend against Auburn.
Just because we win six games. Doesn't mean we go to a bowl. There are still ten teams on track to get into bowls this year. From the SEC. We get 9 tie-ins with the bowls. So baring some huge collapse by Florida or Alabama. We will have ten teams get in. Because of the two BCS bowl teams. If that does happen. Plus Ole Miss loses all its remaining games. Including the D-2 team. Good chance the Rebels would be left out.JustBlues wrote:we were to beat Auburn tomorrow and then the unthinkable happen and lose the rest of our games including NAU, we would be bowl eligible and due to SEC contracts we WOULD receive a bowl bid. We are bowl eligble with a win tomorrow. The two FCS rule only applies if a FBS school wins only 6 and 2 of those are against FCS squads. That will not be our issue if we should win tomorrow. We will have a minimum of 5 wins against FBS opponents and 1 'counted' win against an FCS opponent.

there are ten teams in a position to qualify for a bowl, not all ten teams can qualify. In order to qualify, some must beat others of those ten teams, putting them out. it is mathematically impossible at this point for ten SEC teams to qualify for a bowl. It is unlikely that more than eight will, but ten cannot. Therefore, regardless what else happens, every team that does qualify will get a bid. However, let me go on record as saying that if we lost to NAU but still quaulified for a bowl, we would not deserve one and it would be a major embarrasment.

Four teams are already in the Bowl picture. That leaves six teams left to get in. To make it over the max.
Auburn beats Furman there in.
Ole Miss beats Auburn there in.
Georgia beats Tennessee Tech and either Auburn or Kentucky
Kentucky beats Eastern Kentucky and Vanderbilt or Mississippi State
Theres a solid eight teams to get in. Now it gets some what tricky from here but still rather easy. If the teams beat who they should.
Arkansas beats Eastern Michigan,Troy, and they get Mississippi State at home.
Tennessee beats Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Memphis
So yes ten teams can get in. Playing each other doesn't matter. So as much fun as this was to show you. Maybe you can do it next time.
