they will choose another time to shout it. But he had no choice, it's gotten out of hand...and they called his bluff.
If we here it Saturday..we should boo the students.

Of course he has a choice. He simply made the wrong one.rebelliousb wrote:they will choose another time to shout it. But he had no choice, it's gotten out of hand...and they called his bluff.

I'm disappointed... that you're not stopping your pleas for sensitivity long enough to call me names this time around.rebelliousb wrote:and the students made the right one?felicianareb wrote:Of course he has a choice. I'll get around to it. Right now I just want to point out that these "chanters" and others stirring the pot, have put their agenda ahead of the University and the football team. That is worthy of name calling. They should be on message boards that spout the holiness of the downtrodden south step child who will some day rise out of the ashes. Do it on those boards. I know I shouldn't speak for the people who provide and take care of this board...but I would hope they love the school more than the fantasy of a new Dixie...non PC ...where a *beep* is a *beep* and he ain't welcome in Dixie...where blacks know their [place and it ain't Ole Miss...even though many are not so distant kin to me you and the chanters...yada yada yadafelicianareb wrote:I'm disappointed... that you're not stopping your pleas for sensitivity long enough to call me names this time around.rebelliousb wrote:and the students made the right one?felicianareb wrote: Of course he has a choice. No one is chanting anything against blacks. Are you kidding?rebelliousb wrote:I'll get around to it. What Jones is saying is that pride in were you come(if it is from the South) from will not be permitted.
The current paradigm of the majority is just as intolorant as they accuse everyone else of being. Labeling people as "racist" is just as harmful as racism. The censorship of thought and expression is extreme and tyrannical.
This is a sad day because the South is once again not afforded a gesture of pride that every other cultural background is affored. Lest we acknowledge the fact that a Southerner wrote the declaration of independence, another the Bill of Rights.
This is really about censoring a culture, that many in power would love to see become extinct and the practice of sociocide or how ever you may describe it is a serious, serious, matter.

That's what I don't understand. Why don't you go stand outside your church, place of employment...kid's school and shout your chant? You have that freedom to spread your southern "cultural charm". Do it as a proud individual...publicly...don't hide in a group of few hundred or thousand and do it like a scared man. Freedom of speech...it's all yours...use it or shut up.Leibniz wrote:No one is chanting anything against blacks. Are you kidding?rebelliousb wrote:I'll get around to it. I know I'm in the minority...but I'm glad. I have no problem with FDWL. But I have a problem with TSWRA. I am embarassed everytime I hear it and I'm glad its gone. I propose that if the students yell it during another tune we suspend the band altogether at games. This is a battle that the school must win. Again, I know I'm in the minority, but there is no reason to be proud to be from the south if you are shouting something as ridiculous as TSWRA. I grew up hearing that crap and I know what it means to most who shout it. It is nothing to be proud of.
Anyway, thats what I think. I'm very tired of racial controversey at Ole Miss. We need to take the steps necessary to remove all the ammo we give for it. This is one of those steps.

Foward Rebels! March to Fame!
apparently don't know what censorship is. As far as I know, neither the university nor the government has threatened to force anyone to stop the chant. No one has been ejected from games nor has their been a threat to eject them. Certainly, no one has been arrested or tortured because of the chant. People who see the harm or potential harm has asked those who are chanting to please stop and explained why. The university certainly has every right to determine what songs the band will or won't play. There is no censorship and there is no violation of rights on the university's part.
Political correctness just got 13 people killed in Texas. Some will construe a racial tone to everything whether or not it is racial. Some of the chanters sure enough may be racist, but they are the minority of students involved. I guess it is time to really expand this restructuring of society based on what things mean to small numbers of folks. I guess I should sell my Toyota and Mercedes because of what the Japanese and Germans did to Americans in WWII. Duriing the playing of the Texas fight song, the entire throng shouts "OU SUCKS' and no one is upset, (except the OU fans probably). I did like the idea suggested that the song should end with "To Hell with LSU", but other than that, lets worry about things that matter to the majority of Ole Miss fans, winning!

It might shock you, but are you aware that Obama had a wreath placed on the Confederate Memorial in Arlington National Cemetery this past Memorial Day. Why do you suppose he would do such a dreadful thing? Perhaps the new chancellor would consider doing something similar on campus. Just a thought...rebelliousb wrote:I'll get around to it. Everybody knows what it really means...hearing it defended is like listening to David Duke trying to justify his stances when he was running for political office.Chucky_38 wrote:I know I'm in the minority...but I'm glad. But FDWL is something totally different and beautiful and it is one of the things I most cherish about football visits to campus. The experience will be less special without it. But I can't in good conscience protest the Chancellor's move...yet.
Of course he had a choice....but what the idiot students did was give him the OPPORTUNITY...this one is squarely on them. And what they need is a good old fashion butt whooping..and they should have to cut their own switch and then wash their mouths out with soap!
There is a huge difference in honoring the dead of the second most important war of this nation's existence (which to me is what FDWL does so beautifully)...and a chant that is racist and backwards at its core.felicianareb wrote:It might shock you, but are you aware that Obama had a wreath placed on the Confederate Memorial in Arlington National Cemetery this past Memorial Day. I have defended the culture and traditions of Ole Miss at the top of my lungs...and I can not stand the PC that has enveloped this nation because of hypocritical and intolerant liberals out there. But this chant is quite simply indefensible.
