Hey everyone, I was accepted into Ole Miss and was wondering what the best male dorm is? Any recommendations?

It's been a while since I was at Ole Miss. I only lived in Kincannon for a semester and then I moved into the frat house.

Stockard and Martin were the freshmen dorms when I was there. That's probably the best place for freshmen b/c all of the other freshmen will be there. And the freshmen girls will be there. That's if it's still predominantly freshmen. I heard they changed some of that stuff a while back.

Stockard and Martin are both choices still. But now they have added Brown, Deaton, and Kincannon. Thanks for the help, I'm sorta planning on doing the same thing with the semester/frat house thing!

Lived in Stockard so I am biased. Little info: Stockard's nickname is the 'Stockyard' for obvious reasons. We called Kincannon, Kin'compton' back in my day b/c it is/was a ghetto (not a racial thing, just the place is downtrodden and outdated). Deaton is supposedly really nice on the interior as it was, up to this year, the freshman 'athletic' dorm. Brown was a chick dorm when I was there.

My sister was hall director at Crosby, and my wife was the secretary at Residence Life while we were there, so I asked her. She said Stockard will probably be the best still.

You can always call Bonnie Reid who is over Residence Life, or at least she still was in 2007. She would be able to tell you all about the different dorms.

Keeping in mind that we are talking decades ago, I found that Kincannon was a good location..not sure what kind of shape it is in now though...I have only had daughters on Campus in this generation...let me know what you think though 'cause I have boys coming in a year or so.

Kincannon was the athletics dorm, so I would have thought it would have been the best, but it is rather old now. I would still say Martin-Stockard.

If you have two, you might be surprised at how cheaply you could get them a house out away from town. A 20 minute drive from Water Valley is not bad, schedule classes MWF... T-Th to study and work.

I transferred to Ole Miss from NWJC (now NWCC), so I never really had the freshman dorm experience, but my nephew lived in Brown as a freshman last year and seemed to like it. One recommendation I would give is that if possible, get a room with a sink in it. I know that the newer dorms don't but some of the older ones do. My only dorm experience at Ole Miss was living in Faulkner for one semester (right across the street from Johnson Commons and a stone's throw from the library...GREAT location) and my room did have a sink. Being able to shave, brush you teeth, wash your one plate, cup, knife, fork, and spoon in your room sure does make dorm life easier.

Don't make the frat house your only option in that second semester. It usually depends if there are any openings and freshmen get last choice. I was a sophomore and one of the upper classmen needed a roommate. That's how I was able to get in so early(I was still a pledge when I moved in... and yes that was interesting).

Well back when I was at Ole Miss (when Moby "That other QB from Arkansas" was a minnow) the Athletics dorm was Guess Hall and then Kinard Hall became the new Athletics Dorm... I lived in Kincannon and It was older than Twin Towers but it was still nicer I thought... besides there is a lot to be said for convenience of location.

Congrats on being accepted! I was accepted as well, and will probably attend (depending on whether or not I get accepted to the Lott Institute). I went to Ole Miss's Summer College for High School Students program, but we stayed in Hefley. I applied for the residential college, so hopefully I'll get accepted to that. I think I'd go with Stockard, if I were you.

Paid housing deposit, looks like I'm going for Deaton and back up is Stockard.
