Deuce McAllister retiring from NFL

........McAllister was declared inactive for the game but led the Saints onto the Louisiana Superdome field to thunderous cheers and also was one of the Saints captains.

“It was definitely a special night,” said McAllister, who played for Morton High School and Ole Miss. “To be part of that and to be received by Saints fans the way I was is something I will always remember and be able to replay for the rest of my life.”

Whenever the Saints faced a third-and-short situation, the home crowd started calling, “DEEEUUUUCEE!”

Said McAllister: “I wasn’t even dressed out but that made me want to go in there.”
......McAlister said he again will serve as an honorary captain and will be on the sidelines Sunday.

“There’s one thing that would make this all more special,” he said. “And that’s to go out with the big one, the big trophy.”

No doubt...if he is in fact on the roster, as reported, then dress him! Let him finish this run in uniform. He deserves at least that. And I still say on first and goal, put some big studs in there and let him waltz into that end zone (granted against the Williams boys at Minnesota...the blockers better be REAL BIG studs)..

Whats the word, regarding Deuce's plans for the future? I know he has some connection to the King Edward project, and the auto industry hit a skid. His Catch 22 foundation is really active, but what will he do now that he has grown up. He is a really awesome guy.

some talk about working with the Saints in a management/administration/ coaching position......think hes been 'grown up' for a while now 8)

I hope you know I wasnt taking a shot at Deuce about growing up. He is and has done some awesome things. I jus tcant believe he is retiring. It seems like such a short time ago that he was at Ole Miss jumpin over a goal line pile. Time truly flies by. I love the idea of him plugging into a management position. It was a great PR move by the Saints. It definitely aides with marketing in the MS area. It is always refreshing to see someone like him succeeding on the field and now off. He always seems to have done things the "right way".

Sorry, I misunderstood your 'grown up' phrase, should have realized your were referring to his retirement - sometimes, I just get overly protective.

As exciting as some of Dex's run have been, still I think the most excited I have been from one Ole Miss play was Deuce's Kickoff return against Arky in that night game on ESPN2. I think it was Todd Christensen calling the game and I remember him saying "Deuce is loose on the Deuce!"...still get excited remembering it..such a combination of size, speed, quickness and even greater class and goodness. Proud he is ours!

LOL. I was jumping up and down on the seat in front of me and got so excited I almost fell on some Arky fans. Definitey one of my favorite memories too.

Or the onside kick return for a touchdown against Texas Tech in the Independence Bowl in Cut's first game as coach.

I was at that game. A bunch of drunk Arky fans came in right before the game started, sportin the hoghead and doin that woo pig *beep*. Needless to say they finally shut up after that opening kick-off and didn't say a word the rest of the game, even left in the third quarter. Pure sweetness. It was an awesome return too!!
