I love to be optimistic but after looking at our schedule for next year and considering that in the defensive backfield and on the offense it will be a rebuilding year, we will be lucky to finish 6-6.
Sept. 4th: jacksonville state, this is a win
sept 11th: tulane (new orleans), this should be a win but may be tough
sept 18th: vandy, tough but we win
sept 18th: Fresno state, this will be a tough game, we could win or loose this one.
oct 2nd: kentucky, again, this is a very tough game against a rising program, a toss up
oct 16th: Alabama, this is a loss against a experienced tide team in tuscaloosa, were 5-1 or 4-2 after this one
oct 23: arkansas in fayetteville, arky nation may finally get one against nutt, were 4-3 or 5-2 afterwards.
oct 30th: Auburn, always tough and against another tough program, we prob. lose, were now 4-4 or 5-3
Nov 6th: ul-lafayette, we win this one, brings our record to 5-4 or 6-3
nov 13th: Tennessee in knoxville, we lose this in a place we don't win at, 5-5 or 6-4 now.
nov 20th: lsu in baton rouge, weve won 2 straight against em but not this time, 5-6 or 6-5 now.
nov 27th: msu, we win this one because we are still hurting from the beating in starkville, if were lucky we pull out a 6-6 record, if were not then we are 5-7.
As you see, this is a very very tough schedule. It will be vital to start off 5-0 before we go against the tide but kentucky and vandy are both tough opponents. We lost alot off of last years team. We lost our whole defensive backfield pretty much and our only consistent offensive linemen and our only consistent wide receiver. Its a rebuilding year guys, get ready for it.
Don't expect the world out of our team in 2010

I don't share your pessimism....I believe that we will certainly be 4-0 in nonconference play which means we would have to be 2-6 in SEC play to go 6-6....
Even if we were stuck with Snead coming back we would be better than Vandy, KY, TN and MSU, and we will defiinitely be improved at QB and until LSU actually proves they can beat Nutt, I would favor us in that game as well, so I see us 8-4 at worst....

I'll make my prediction after the spring game.
Rule #1.......Don't panik
I think we sweep through non-conference play with 4 wins. The only SEC game I would say looks like a sure-fire loss is Bama. The rest I would say are toss-ups at most. Arky will be tough on the road as will Tennessee and of course LSU, but I think we will have the better team of all three of those. As we all know, nothing is guaranteed in the SEC. I could see us having a chance to go to a decent bowl and win 9 for the third straight year, which would make me happy!!
I've gotta believe that somebody can outperform what Snead did this year. We're getting some taller help at WR. I'm excited to see Patterson and Sanders line up and spread things out a little. The O line is my worry again. Don't think it'll be worse just hope it'll be more consistent. The D is gonna be good.
I can't pick us as lower than third or fourth in the west. We're not gonna be in front of Bama or LSU (Bama because they're better; LSU because they're LSU). We're clearly out recruiting MSU and Arky. I'd say our chances our around the same as Auburn's. That's not bad in a rebuilding year!
And the Saint's won the Super Bowl!! It's possible that we run the table and win the Big One!!! Hotty Toddy!

that will actually be a great barometer if they let our first team offense go against our first team defense. That will be a good judge of our QB and OL against a good DL and good LB's...not too worried about our receivers against DB's. Open receivers was not our problem last year...having a QB who would even look at them much less get the ball to them was.badmotorfinger wrote:I'll make my prediction after the spring game.
This Spring Game is a must see for sure...and we need either Cotton or Stanley to take charge of this team so that we don't have to rely on a late arriving Mackey at QB which will free him up to wreak havoc in the Wild Rebel and other situations as a wild card.
Could be a bit of a downer for the Rebs. Only because of their success of their last 2 seasons and the expectation level has risen a bit. The schedule isn't easy and the non con part can be a breeze or surprisingly difficult. I think OM will take a step back this year not necessarily based on what they have lost (lost a lot imo) but the fact that the other teams in the West seem to have a lot more proven experience coming back. Sometimes it's not how much you've changed as much as how much the other's have. Think OM is on pace to have another 9-10 win season in 2011.
Bama is going to be Bama again. Their defense maybe a bit softer but their offense will be solid again. If Auburn can get a qb, they will be poised to have a good year. LSU has been doormat for the last couple of years. They have a lot of experience and talent coming back. They should be a lot better. Ark will have a good/great offense with a ton of experience on both sides of the ball. If their defense takes another step forward, they should be a 9-10 win team. MSU might stay the same. But, all signs point to Mullen having them on the right track.
Despite what many admit/believe. OM will miss Snead. He did throw a lot of INT's but he did do a lot of great things as well. Know the frosh who got in the Cotton Bowl seems to have some ability. You can't put a price tag on having SEC experience. OM will need to run the ball more this year coming up and there best play maker will hopefully be on my Fantasy Football Team playing on sundays next season. OM has recruited well and the shoes (on paper) seem to be in the process of being filled. How soon that happens will be the great debate up until kickoff 2010.

Our greatest loss is Dexter. The others will be missed, but can and will be replaced.
I'm not worried about having an inexperienced SEC QB, bc our previous experienced SEC QB was a significant factor in our SEC loses. Stanley and Cotton will not throw more than 20 ints, or more pie-in-the-sky air balls, or more bouncing-in-the-dirt balls than Mr. Experience. (Mackey may be as good as advertised.)
This doom and gloom attitude is ridiculous. Will we make it to the SECCG? No, but we didn't this yr or anytime during the past 40+ yrs either, but we will have a winning record in conference and OOC play. We will not go to the Cotton Bowl, but we will go to a good bowl. We are building a championship program. We have coaches who can recruit and COACH (Rader being the only big ?).
One thing is certain - OM fans are more depressing than any other fan base in the SEC and probably the country. Shameful. Our team deserves better.

I guess I am talking to the wall so I will quit speaking what I believe to be the truth about Snead, but before I do let's just make one thing clear about losing SEC experience at QB...the more SEC experience #4 got, the more he crumbled...that is one position that quite frankly (as compared to '09, not so much '08) can only improve....if we have a QB who completes less than 35 - 40 % in SEC games and throws more than 20 ints including pick sixes at crucial points in SEC play, we are in trouble of Orgeron proportions....
In spite of one very poor throw in the Cotton Bowl, Stanley looked far more composed and in control than Snead and I suspect that Cotton is probably even better. I am not worried about the QB position. OL and DB's are my biggest question marks and given the coaches in charge of those areas I am confident they will be fine. The schedule is only harder because of the road games. I will swap KY for SC any day and I don't think Nutt will lose to Miles (or in my opinion Arky) I agree that Bama and Auburn will probably be better teams than us and Arky and TN could be tough road games but I mark MSU (in Oxford), KY and Vandy as victories and probably TN....that gets us to 8 wins if we just beat the teams we should add one or both of LSU and Arky and we could have 9 wins and still finish behind bama and Auburn.
QB of course is the key...but there is a lot mor room for a step up than a step down at that position.
I am confident that we will be fine this year and potentially VERY good in '11.

I really think that is the minority of fans...I think many believe we will be fine and are just refraining from speaking for fear of a letdown or "I told you so"....I don't believe in jinxing anything by having expectations and call it as I see it. If I think we stink I will say so (as anyone who was around during Orgeron will know)bleuwolfe wrote:

Not much different from my bet, just curious though... do you think we win all 4 non-conf and go 3-5 in SEC? Or do you have us losing to maybe Fresno and going 4-4 in SEC? I don't know why, but my gut just thinks we do no worse than 4-4 in conference...although depending on QB play (which I hope will be solid by that 4th game with Fresno) I guess I could see us slipping up against Fresno...
