I'm not saying we need to fire Houston Nutt, but I'm just curious. I was talking to some guys in the grove and we were talking about who we would want coaching the Rebels IF we were to give Nutt the boot. What do ya'll think of Mike Leach? He was highly successful at Texas Tech and has a very potent offense. Opinions?

And no, I'm not an Arky fan in disguise. I'm just frustrated and so is just about everyone else in the student section. And It's only been 3 games.

No to Leach! We have had enough experiments! I know it's easy enough to say, but we need a proven winner! How is it that Bama, LSU even AR can go out and get a coach that is on top of the world? They aren't any better than we are. I'm not talking about a team here, I'm talking fans, students, alumni, location, etc. What's the difference?

I agree. But, Leach did have some very good seasons at Tech.

The only thing I like about Nutt is that he always gets the most out of his boys. Well he did at AR anyway.

I do not have the slightest clue who we could get. I did hear someone say that the boy at Utah would probably be snatched up at the end of the year. By who though, I don't know? I don't really know anything about him either.

I was not a fan of hiring Nutt in the first place but he is our coach and I am behind him 100%. I also don't think we need to get rid of him after one bad season which is what this season will be.
Ole Miss got rid of Coach Cutt too quick in my opinion although the onfield problems was not the reason Cutt was fired. Boone wanted his own selection as head coach not the previous ADs.
If this season progresses as I think it will, I say give Nutt one more year to turn it around. We have a good recruiting class coming together (that is if they don't bolt after watching our performances so far this year).
We don't need the reputation of getting rid of a quality coach after one bad season. But we also don't need to be as stubborn as Arkansas and keep him around too long if the results won't support him.

MAYBE we can have this conversation in November about what if he doesnt produce next year but this is absurd. In no way should we even be talking about firing the guy right now. I am just as *beep* as anybody who sat through that garbage yesterday but our recruiting class is better on paper than any in Ole Miss history (right now)... Nix is a big part of recruiting but there is no doubt about it, he CANNOT stop teams that run out of the spread. Our offense is gross and going nowhere.. Bringing Dave Radar in was a joke. Naming MM co-coordinator was equally ridiculous. Seems like MM needs to get back to focusing on the O-line because they are awful, give him the opportunity to stay on as an O-line coach if he wants to keep his current title let him go. Get rid of Radar altogether and hire a real up and coming coordinator from a lower level school. I still think Nutt is calling the plays but we cannot even get in and out of a d*** huddle right now.

Kent Austin. Should have been hired instead of Nutt in the first place.

I am an Ole Miss alumni (Pharmacy 82) that lives in NW Arkansas. I watched what happened up here and now it is happening there. Houston Nutt will motivate like crazy and we will win games that we thought we would not win, but like Saturday, you cannot go to the emotional well too many times so we will lose against opponents that we should not. I was also disturbed that he has not learned to manage the clock any better. Why were we in a huddle in a hurry up situation? Wasting clock time. I think Nutt will give us 8 or 9 wins a year but not sure if there is anyone out there right now that is better.

Disappointment reigns.

I don't think this question was a serious question. Obviously we aren't talking about firing Coach Nutt, but if theoretically we did; then who would we want. Is there a better candidate other than Nutt out their at the current time?

Of course we cannot think about this unless we end up going say, 2-10. Hopefully he will turn it around. The one thing that does bother me about the whole situation is earlier this year Nutt said, "We knew this day was coming three years ago." If that was the case, then why did you not prepare for this the day you got on campus. I'm sure coaches like Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, etc.(even though I do hate them you have to admit, they are ok coaches) do not blame a season on this. They prepare to give themselves a winning season each and every year.

I hope Nutt turns it around, but its not likely at this point with all of the problems we are having. With that being said; if we are 2-9, or 4-7 going into the Egg Bowl (which isn't entirely out of the question) does the Egg Bowl hold Nutts future? Then we really start having this conversation.
