Would your Tide keep a Nutt after a season like ours?

Is Nutt not ultimately responsible for poor play on both sides of the ball? If it's not working, take away decision making from your coordinators. Just don't spin it where you have no personal blame for a bad season.

If Nutt's willing to clean house and makes good hires, I'd be OK with keeping him.

The Chicken came first! Then the Egg Bowl! Not sure I get your point though.

Have you heard the lyrics, "Give me something to believe in!" that's all I ask for!

I will support our team, but you don't build a dynasty going from 9-4 to 4-8. It takes recruiting, teaching, team building & yes... coaching.

Agree completely. Generally speaking, we have the *beep* fans in the SEC. Now most of the folks on this board and probably NAFOOM, too, don't fall into that camp. But the majority of OM fans are the Grove types, get ahead/fall behind and leave types, or the fair weather types. Until we get our *beep* together as a fan base and start packing the Vaught on a regular basis IN THE MIDST OF A *beep* SEASON (a la SC during their down years), we will stay at the bottom of our division and deservedly so.

I think we're coming back to that "product on the field" again!

People travel, pay, and stay to see a great product perform. Our marketing department sux. We've had a lot of TV coverage this year, so the football world knows we'll find a way to lose. I don't know what it will take to change that perception, but I hope it happens soon!

When I was watching and listening on the radio, it sounded like there were a lot more than 1000 fans there. I thought it was actually kinda loud when Masoli scored his rushing TD early in the 4th Qt.

But then again, you were there, so I will take your word for it.

Colreb74, no offense, but you're an idiot. Did or did not Bama keep Schula for a few years, even though they were going to bowls like the Independence, if they went bowling at all. And Bama's fans are more hardcore than ours.

I have a feeling that if the D has another bad year, then Nutt will get rid of Nix.

Why would you want Nutt to "clean house"? WE JUST SCORED 36 POINTS ON THE #5 TEAM IN THE NATION THAT IS KNOWN FOR ITS DEFENSE!! We put up more points against LSU than ANY OTHER TEAM HAS THIS YEAR! Yes, more than Auburn, Bama, Florida, State, or Tennessee!

It's just that your comments make no sense to me (but then again, I'm not very intelligent), like teaching your son to take off his Ole Miss hat when you see a fan of the opposing team coming your way. That's being a coward. You're unbelievable.

You can keep your opinions, and in not going to argue them. All I ask is that you get your facts straight. It was Schula's "bad" 6 win season that was his last, one year after a 10 win season. He was fired at 6-6 and didn't coach the bowl game which Bama lost to fall 6-7. Maybe this is impossible for you to comprehend, but for some schools losing seasons are unacceptable. Others pat the coach on the back and say "it's OK!"

Let's just forget the losses and brag about those 36 points!

I apologize for the comments, I shouldn't have made those.

But my point is, you don't fire a coach after 1 bad season, or expect him to "clean house". Now, if the Rebels don't go bowling next year, then I would expect a "cleaning of the house". But the worst part of our team was the D, who had many young people on there this season and had one of their Senior leaders (Lockett) go down in the 2nd or 3rd game of the season (I can't remember). Now, if the same thing happened next year with the D, I will expect Nutt to do something to change it.

I will ask everyone this question. If two people have been married for 5 or 10 years and then they have a big argument, do they just throw their hands up and get a divorce? Or, do they say "Ok, let's make some changes, get our marriage back on the right track, and continue."? I, personally, would want to do the latter.

If Ole Miss or Houston Nutt made some drastic changes after this season, it would send a bad message to other schools and other coaches that OM might consider hiring. It would show that we are essentially saying, "We are committed to you and behind you......until we hit the first little bump in the road." Just my opinion.

Coaches are hired to do a job. They are not "married" to a school. If you paid your wife $2.6 million per year, you would probably have some expectations for sex frequency and neither of you would consider it much of a "relationship".

Good or bad, coaches are no more married to a school than we are to our jobs! We pay a guy $2.6 million, our expectations are warranted!

To answer your question: What message would it send?

I suggest it sends the message, "Failure is unacceptable!"

That is the message that Bama and others send in their coaching hires/fires. All of us who are honest with ourselves know this fact, "Bama would NOT tolerate this level of failure."

$2.6 million is not a lot to pay a coach. No, he isn't the best coach in the conference but he isn't any near being the highest paid either. You get what you pay for. There are no bargain coaches. If you pay $2.6 million for a coach in the SEC, you are going to have some good years- no championships years but good years nonetheless-- and some bad years. That's exactly what we have. You'd be hard pressed to find many coaches at that salary that have done any better.

Guess you're right... Why don't you tell Auburn & South Carolina that their "bargain" coaches won't get you to Atlanta for the SEC Championship? Then explain your philosophy to the rest of the teams who will be playing in BCS bowl games.

by all means, list all of the coaches that make $2.6 million less who have 43 or more wins in the SEC.

JustBlues wrote:$2.6 million is not a lot to pay a coach.

Now.... Welcome back to reality! Nutt is tied for 13th highest salary among NCAA football coaches. Can you Tell me you don't see any "champion" coaches that make less money?

and answering your quesion, no I don't see any coaches on that list making less money that have won an SEC championship. I guarantee you that if one making less ever does win, or even seriously compete, for an SEC championship, they will jump to the top of the list, whether at their current school or at a new job. $2.6 million will not buy an SEC champion coach.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you're missing something here.

First, I said Championship coaches, not SEC championships... But since you brought it up, Spurrier comes to mind.... Maybe it was before your time, but he won SEC championships.

Second, Why do you still say "If..."????? Time to snap you out of the trance...

Not trying to insult your intelligence, but one of them WILL win the SEC Championship THIS YEAR!!!! That is the point i was getting at! It's not a hypothetical anymore! Have you been following the conference this year???

The championship game is set!

Chizik or Spurrier WILL win an SEC Championship this season. Nutt makes more than either of them.

$2.6 million is a good salary than CAN buy a championship coach... Case and Point!
