Nutt needs to fire most of the staff or he needs to go
Moderator: Rebel Security
I want everyones opinion on this, do we really want to give the current staff another season before we go another direction? If you look at how the whole defensive staff with the exception on the d-line coach performed this season, there is no excuse to keep them here. The only reason that i can think of why nutt would keep them is to give himself a cushion year. By that i mean when a coach has a bad season, he can save his job by letting go of the coaches under him. If nutt waits another year and we have yet another bad season next year, he can save himself by firing the other coaches. I hope he plays this smart. Nix and vaughn need to go.

I say at this point we trust the HC to make the decisions, and hope he makes the right ones. At 2.7m he is paid enough to right the ship. If there is not substantial improvement next year, I hope we go shopping!

Thanks for the input jreb but im afraid you are cluless. We did this not even 10 years ago with one bad season. Get a grip, hold your tongue, then graduate and actually contribute your money to the school and then you can gripe.
I believe the last time we lost to the Starkville Jr College Bulldogs in Oxford was 10 years ago as well.... The Irony!wildthang80 wrote:Thanks for the input jreb but im afraid you are cluless. I believe this. A coach should be praised/get lynched on his own accord. When Admin's/boards start dictating to a program who they want running this or that on the field, it doesn't work (point me out a situation where it has worked). Not saying Nutt is in love with all of his coaches and etc. But, he should have the ultimate decision. After all, it's his butt on the line mainly.
I believe that assistants are very important and can even carry along a coach sort of speak. But, I believe a coach should either climb the mountain top or go down in a ball of flames with whomever they see fit (unless that person is a proven rule breaker, abusing players or completely not doing their job).
I agree with the topic's statement in a way. You let him do his thing the way he sees fit, or you get rid of him completely. If Nutt likes his staff the way it is, then he should be willing to accept all consequences for it good or bad.

1) hire assistant coaches and allow them to do their jobs
2) oversee the recruiting of players (ultimately decide which players should get scholarship offers)
3) motivate the team and coaches
4) be the public face of the team
Because of the high profile position and the usual accompanying high salary, he is and should be held responsible for things that go wrong. After one bad year, he should not be fired but he has to know that his job is on the line and whatever's wrong needs to be fixed. How he fixes it is his problem, but he needs to know that if he doesn't fix it, he needs to have his bags packed. His hand should not be forced on anything but if next year even remotely resembles this year, then it is time to get a new captain for the ship.

Yeah, my biggest worry right now isn't with our 4-8 record this year (The SEC West was nasty this year), it's with our attrition. I'm also worried about how our team is now being perceived nationally(media/non ole miss fans) and statewide. We had built so much momentum in 08 and 09, it seemed impossible but I think we have lost most all of it. The dagger of it all was the loss to State this past weekend. Coach Nutt put so much emphasis on beating Dan Mullen and State and wasn't able to produce. He may have not talked about it much publicly, but privately he was absolutely irate at how last years game ended up. The team often ran extra after practice during the off-season because of the loss to State. After saying all of that I still have faith that this program can continue on our path to Atlanta if we are able to pull in a solid recruiting class this year (ie. keeping the commits we have). I don't believe any drastic staff changes are necessary at this point. I would be ok with a certain coach on offense being let go as well as a certain one on defense (not T. Nix), but I don't believe that an overhaul of our staff is necessary right now. We have built a lot of recruiting momentum around the southeast and that relies on our coaches staying where they are. If the the majority of our staff was fired right now it would set us back years in recruiting.
don't question my knowledge
We're currently ranked #12 in the nation by Rivals. A couple of big pick-ups and we should break the top 10. Nutt usually doesn't lose commits, so we should finish with what could be the highest ranked class of the modern era.
I agree, and some very big names have come on the radar just this week. This staff is known for finishing strong so it looks good. The really good news is that, unlike the previous staff, they are looking to fill the specific holes that need filling.Sasquatch wrote:We're currently ranked #12 in the nation by Rivals. Agree totally. 2 years in the slums, just doesn't cut it. Nothing is perfect but it's really not that hard to make a bowl game every year. Making good bowl games is.JustBlues wrote:A head coach has four major responsibilites:spudhog wrote:I believe this. A coach should be praised/get lynched on his own accord.
