Ole Miss Football 2011 Team Captains Announced

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss football team kicked off the first gameweek of the season by announcing its 2011 team captains Sunday night in a team meeting at the Robert C. Khayat Law Center on campus.

The captains, which were voted on by the players on Saturday, include RB Brandon Bolden (Baton Rouge, La.), DE Wayne Dorsey (Baltimore, Md.), WR Derrick Herman (Cleveland, Miss.), DE Kentrell Lockett (Hahnville, La.), OT Bradley Sowell (Hernando, Miss.) and CB Marcus Temple (Manquin, Va.).

Lockett, who is returning for a sixth year after a torn ACL cut his 2010 campaign short, becomes just the third Rebel in the modern era to be chosen a team captain twice in his career. Others include Jamie Holder in 1984-85 and Bob McCain in 1944-45.

“It’s always an interesting time when the players chose the captains,” said Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt. “They pick the ones that have the best work ethic. They pick the ones that have the best attitude. They pick the ones that they feel are leading our team. I thought this group was a pretty good example.”

The announcement of captains capped a day of meetings for the Rebels, who were given the day off from practice. Ole Miss resumes workouts on Tuesday.

Nutt will take part in Ole Miss’ first weekly fall press conference on Monday, and fans can watch the event live at 2:45 p.m. CT through OleMissSports.com’s RebelVision. The press conference will begin its usual 1:45 p.m. time slot next week.

On Thursday, fans are invited to join the marching band, spirit groups and others for a pep rally, which begins at 6 p.m. in The Grove. The event will lead up to the season debut of "RebTalk with Coach Houston Nutt" at 6:30 p.m.

Beginning this season, the weekly radio show will broadcast Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on home weekends from the Grove Stage and on road weekends from Rooster's Blues House on the Oxford Square.

Saturday’s season opener against BYU is set for a 3:45 p.m. CT kickoff. A limited number of tickets remains, and fans are encouraged to act now by visiting the OleMissSports.com ticket site or calling 662-915-7167 or 1-888-732-8587 (in state).
