We might can win this game without much passing. We did last year. But if we do don't let that give us a false sense of security. In SEC games, we have to be able to run the ball (with running backs as the primary runners not quarterbacks) and then have pocket passing off of that running game. The one key not mentioned enough I think that has hurt us has been the health of Bolden. A back like him is crucial to winning in the SEC. Just look at Bama, their QB's are typically not gifted athletes but their running game allows them to pass from the pocket successfully to complement the running game. I know we are not Bama and don't have the quality of players and certainly not the quality of coaching they have, but love 'em or hate 'em if we REALLY want to compete in the SEC, that should be the program and approach we emulate. At some point we have to start building that type of offense and start being proactive instead of reactive. We have spent two years now being nothing but reactive, from personnel to scheme. If we can not commit to trying to do that then we will be an SEC footnote for years to come.

I think what you are saying is true, but if we want to be like bama and run that style offense, it has just as much to do with defense.. Bama is a clock control grind it out hit you in the mouth and wear you down offense.. But, the defense is the straw that stirs that drink.. Bama is a different animal. They recruit in a totally different way than we do.. They get elite talent, but its elite talent that fits their scheme. I think our staff just looks at stars and is happy to get the most amount of stars and maybe we can fill some of these guys into actual needs one day. Instead, we end up signing a few turds a year that end up washing out, which other teams probably looked at and took into consideration in the first place..Rebchuck18 wrote:We might can win this game without much passing. Saw this prediction on the Clarion Ledger online, and it's in line with the ones we came up with.
Predict the score: Ole Miss at Fresno State
OXFORD — I am going to be jumping on a plane in a couple of hours, but let’s go ahead and play predict the score.
I’ve been thinking quite a bit about this game, and I am struggling to come up with a reason why Ole Miss will win — other than the cliche “an SEC team will always beat a WAC team.” I’ve never thought it was true, and I especially don’t think it’s true in this case.
That said, it should be a pretty competitive game. I’ll go Fresno State 24, Ole Miss 14.
As always, talk about the game and give your predictions in the comments. See you in Fresno.
