Imafraid the powers that be "good ole boys" will not let leach come here... So he locks kids in closets.. What's it to ya
I don't think that it's just "locking boys in closets" (although I believe that we all know that is a mischaracterization of what actually happened). I believe that there are other things about Leach that some gobbers might not like.

Before we keep throwing around the term "good ole boys" in a derogatory manner we need to understand that just because someone has been a long time supporter of the university does not automatically make them bad or wrong. Without some of these "good ole boys" we might still have a 30,000 seat stadium. And in this most crucial hire in a long long time I totally understand some level of concern attached to recommending someone as eccentric and risky and potentially polarizing as Leach. Now if he had monumental success in the Big 12 it might be easier to overlook those eccentricities. But the reality is that in his 10 seasons at Tech he only finished with an above .500 Conference record in five of those ten years, and in three of those years he was only one game above .500 in conference play. He tied for first in the South Division once and lost to us in the Cotton Bowl that year. He never made it to the Big 12 Championship game from a division that, while certainly the toughest division in the Big 12, was no SEC West.
Not saying I would hate it if he is picked, just saying don't be so quick to criticize the "Good Ole Boys" hesitation when it comes to Leach.

Hey, thinking about it Archie's arm was broken against HOUSTON. We have had bad luck with a coach named HOUSTON. I declare that there must be a Houston curse at Ole Miss and emphatically state that we mustn't acquire a coach from Houston or we will be sorry...
I had sideline passes for Archies broken arm game...they took his wristbands off and handed em to me when it happened...talk about a gold star day for me!JustBlues wrote:I could certainly be classified by some here as an "ole boy", but I don't know about good... I remember sitting in the bleachers when Archie broke his arm, or more correctly when Archie's arm was broken for him.

There is no reason not to get Leach. He's crazy, but I like that. He can win without the talent of Bama or LSU. We need a high-paced offense. I'm tired of wasting timeouts because we can't get a play in. I'm tired of giving the opposing defense time to correct based on our slow offensive execution.
Leach would win! We may not win the west every year, but that is something that we have not done anyway. We are Ole Miss. 8-10 wins per year would be acceptable, and I'm betting he could get us to Atlanta quickly.

I was Rebelized when I saw Archie play Alabama on television and then saw him in person against Bama in Jackson the following year. My dad didn't go to college (unless Meridian Junior College counts) but he always pulled for Mississippi State. When I was born there was actually a picture of me in the Meridian Star (my dad was Sports Editor) with some Mississippi State crap all around my little ugly baby mug. But Archie converted my Dad. And then when Archie got to the Saints, Daddy was with the New Orleans newspaper. I would go to New Orleans to visit my dad for all the Saints games at Tulane Stadium..we would ride the Street Car from my Dad's house off of ST. Charles to the stadium. I will never forget after Archie scored the winning TD in his first game (good thing they didn't have instant replay because I think he actually fumbled). We were on that Street Car with loud drunk Saints fans (many of them also LSU fans) and my Dad led everyone on that street car in the loudest Hotty Toddy I have heard in my decades as a Rebel fan. Those drunk LSU fans were even momentarily converted by Archie.Hagar wrote:I had sideline passes for Archies broken arm game...they took his wristbands off and handed em to me when it happened...talk about a gold star day for me!JustBlues wrote:I could certainly be classified by some here as an "ole boy", but I don't know about good... My Dad was Sports Editor when Bum traded Archie to the Oilers...he never went to another Saints game for the rest of his life. Not because Archie had been traded, but because of how Bum and The Saints organization handled it (Archie found out from a reporter).
Archie brought a refreshing and positive breeze to a beaten down state that reeked of years of self inflicted putrid stench. He brought pride and dignity to a worthless NFL franchise and did great things for the city of New Orleans, on and off the field. And he has continued to represent his school, his home state, and his adopted hometown with dignity and grace for four decades and given continued service to all on several fronts.
I will trust his list over my own.

Based upon what? He never got Texas Tech to a Big 12 Championship Game.
I thought we were trying to rid ourselves of this mentality - can't be champions unless you think and act like champions.REBEL13 wrote: Leach would win! My quote for this is: If you think you cannot or will not achieve it, you will be correct

My definition of good ole boy is same as wikipedia..."It can be used as a pejorative term, referring to someone who engages in cronyism among men who have known each other for a long period of time. Collectively these people are referred to using the slang term, good ol' boy network."
Nothing terrible about it But when you have a group of like minded men who have been unsuccessful for a while you got to reach outside o the good ole boy network ,just not looking outdide of the box in fear of another nutt situation will limit our choices. But then again we did get nutt so maybe there is no ground to stand on here

I think my fascination with leach is the ability for him to get a
Quarterback qwould be immediate change for ole miss... If he could pull a big time defensive coordinator I think we could make some things happen... But leach is not aloud to run the defense because that is how he lost most of the time
