How about Tony Dungy. He's probably available, and it seems Peyton may not play so get him to be QB coach.
Oh well I can dream can't I?

Kevin Sumlin has recruited the same territory as Mike Leach and was on the Oklahoma staff when Sam Bradford was there. He has a great offensive mind. Leach has baggage. We need to stop hiring fired coaches from other schools (Nutt), or coordinators who are always a crap shoot (Cutcliffe, Orgeron) and hire a proven HC who has won in Division 1. Note: that does not mean hiring someone who has won at Lambuth and Arkansas State. It does not mean hiring a coordinator who has never been a head coach (Malzahn, Smart). Particularly Smart. We don't even know if he is a good DC. Saban runs everything at 'Bama. Smart's experience consists of saying, "Yes, Mr. Saban. Right away, Mr. Saban. Of course, Mr. Saban."

Contact Sumlin. Contact Patterson. Contact Petersen. Start there.

Based upon what? He never got Texas Tech to a Big 12 Championship Game.
Based upon my opinion, which means nothing really. However, I think we have the pieces in place to make his system work quickly. We have at least two quarterbacks that, I believe, are as good as Harrell was. Mackey is currently playing in a system that is not suited for him (or any other qb for that matter). We have receivers with size and speed. They are young and have made mistakes this year, but I believe that they'll improve with age. We have speed at running back.

Markuson has not impressed with his development of our O-line. I think we have talent there. Morris, the Hall brothers, and some of the other new guys could develop well with the right coach. Leach's system takes the heat off of the o-line by using the quick pass, and the wide spacing he used at TT (while it won't work against the SEC elite) wouldn't hurt with the development of the young ones.

The key, as most of Leach's supporters have said, would be the DC. I would hope that he would take the SEC serious enough to realize that defense is important. I'm giving him some credit there, but he's coached in the SEC before. He knows the game.

I just think that if we have two previously successful coaches that have already shown interest, we would be foolish to hire an OC or DC and hope that they can run a program. We are not in a spot to gamble. We need a GOOD hire, not a maybe. We just fired a guy that had a nice resume (I supported giving him another year, but wanted to fire Boone NOW!). Firing a coach with the experience of Nutt, then giving the job to someone with no experience seems crazy to me.

There may be a few others that I would like, but these two have already shown interest. I would love Mariucci (sp?), or someone from the NFL. Urban Meyer too, but I'm trying to be realistic.

We'll see how things play out, but these are my two favorites of the ones listed now. I can't see how we could choose Smart or any other OC/DC over these two. Like I said, this needs to be a GOOD hire. We might not be able to overcome another failure.

I thought we were trying to rid ourselves of this mentality - can't be champions unless you think and act like champions.

My quote for this is: If you think you cannot or will not achieve it, you will be correct
It's reality, not a mentality! We will NEVER have the amount of 4 & 5 star players that Bama and LSU will have. We can get talent, but let's be real here. I would love to believe that we could have a dynasty at Ole Miss, but I can't see us winning a championship every other year. I will be happy with a quality bowl every year, and an occasional trip to Atlanta. Baby steps! We haven't won anything substantial in my lifetime. We have to start to win consistently. Then we can hope for bigger things. If we're looking for a coach that will definitely win NC's, we will be disappointed. Let's start by getting someone who will make us competitive quickly, and the rest will play out. We ARE the worst team in the SEC right now! Think big, but be realistic!

Quarterback qwould be immediate change for ole miss... If he could pull a big time defensive coordinator I think we could make some things happen... But leach is not aloud to run the defense because that is how he lost most of the time
there's also his pending lawsuit which to me is a huge negative we dont need the extra baggage
also dont think hes a good fit for Oxford personality wise Im ready for peace and winning

Please people stop with the Kent Austin... If we fired Nutt during the season, paying him $6 mil and go out and make our big hire of Kent Austin, we will be the vanderbilt of old..
