During the 3 o'clock press conference, as expected, things got a little emotional for Nutt. One of his comments really makes me have tremendous respect for the man: "Ole miss is a great place, I love it here. The program is capable of winning at a high level. I wish I were here to see it through, but I gave it everything I had" The man may not have had the mojo to do better here but I believe him when he said he did his best. Another comment that I liked was that he and his staff were going to continue to recruit for the next 3 weeks so they can leave the best possible situation for the next staff. Say what you want about the man, but he is a good guy and I wish him well.

Yea I've felt terrible about all that was said and I had some words after a few choice games... It got me when he said,"I wanted to be the first coach to bring ole miss to Atlanta" I believe he meant that and I wish he could have been the man... Unfortunately he didn't around himself with great coaches and made some poor calls himself... He is a good fella and can do some special things... Sec may not be the place for him unless he would have got some big time assistants. I for one wish him well and root for him in The future

On that note does anyone have a ticket for any of the remaining games? I'd like to give a standing O one last time

I don't dislike the man, but this goes along with the territory. He has done nothing to develop this program for the last two years and he is walking away with $6 million. I will wish him all the best, but I will not thank him for where this program is today.

Upon seeing the thread title here, I thought to myself "what the *&%$ ?", "Thank him for his time here?" Thank him for drawing one whale of a paycheck to lose over and over and over again?"

Not just no, but hell no.

However, since hearing this news, I have reverted back to a line that Robert De Niro used in the movie "Men of Honor".

"beware what you wish for"

That said, I have softened a little toward Coach Nutt. I do not wish to thank him, but I do wish him the absolute best. Though he might be a good man, he failed in Oxford.

Meanwhile, I am a little afraid that we shall do no better yet once again.

Nutt runs off with 6 million. Scuhrew him, I won't miss him at all, and he will be laughing all the way to the d*** bank.

In retrospect should have been:

2008 - 10 win season
2009 - 11 win season
2010 no masoli - 11-13 win season?
2011 - now we'd be down hill.

Yeah, thanks for getting my hopes up in 2008. Then thanks for all the attrition and running off Austin. The back to back cotton bowls were nice though. Also thankyou so much for NEVER beating Vandy, losing to Jacksonville state, and IMHO the top 5 most embarrassing losses in school history. But rest assured, I will not stalk you like the piggies do. Goodbye and good luck.

You think we would have won 11-13 games without Masoli? We averaged 30 points per game with him. Soooo I'm guessing without him we would have averaged the 36 points per game to offset the worst defense I have ever seen us have? 36 is what we gave up per game last year defensively. Masoli was not the problem last year, we would have been a million times worse without him. Jacksonville state dropped 49, UT 52 with a true freshman qb.

I'm not thanking him for s***. It's not like the guy got laid off from a 9 to 5 job making 100k per year. That guy will get a send off check that people would be blessed to make in a life time. That's coaching, win ball games or hit the road. I'll thank a coach for their time when they are capable of winning a conference game. I love the rebels but that guy had to GO.

Yes, you're right.

Thanks Coach Nutt. Thanks for the 2 most embarrassing seasons that I can remember. Thanks for losing the last 12 conference games, possibly more. Thanks for letting us and the rest of the college football world realize it IS possible to be worst than Vanderbilt in the SEC, or better yet, its possible for an SEC team to be among the worst in college football. Thanks for setting our football program back another 5 years. Most of all, thanks for getting yourself fired. We can't possibly thank you enough for that. Best of luck in the future, SO LONG!

I agree, Houston came into a situation, especially in recruiting, that he was not prepared for. Orgeron could recruit and he left Houston with some d*** good players, many of who are now playing on Sundays. Houston handed Ole Miss it's ass on several occasions when he was at Arkansas and I was hoping that would carry over into his job at UM. We really took some beatings from Arkansas under nutt. We also beat him. Just an inconsistent guy at the healm, but I certainly liked him.
