I drove from Houston to Oxford for a dose of Ole Miss spirit and love to carry me through till next trip to The Vaught. What I found was sobering and sad, let alone upsetting. I never spend a lot of time at the grove since I don't imbibe and my old legs won't navigate like they used to do in my younger days. This is what I saw and did not see or feel.

I sat in Section R and was surrounded by LSU tiger fans more so than any other time. They came into the stadium, sat nervously and quietly untill the uniformed players were on the field and their band played some of that ridiculous Geaux Tiger crap. I saw so many LSU fans at VH Stadium and that is understandible but so, so sad to see that much yellow and grape clothing was horrible.

When our players came out to warm up, they looked like loosers just fulfilling minimum attendance requirements to keep that scholly. We honored 9 seniors that were leaving or graduating. We should be (as Ron White would say) L O O O A A A D D D E DDDDDD for next year but I am totally blank when that question needs answered about who or what still represents Ole Miss Football.

The scoreboard "Are you Ready", the National Anthem so beautifully sung by an Ole Miss Lady, and the F-18 Jets flying over at night set the atmosphere level high enough to reward me for my long drive, but then the S--- hit the fan.

28 seconds into the game and it was over. I mean it was all over. The game was decided because of the play on the field and the turmoil off the field, but more bothersome, it felt like the whole spirit, that I know as Ole Miss, left the arena with a whoosh louder than the low flying jets moments before. I saw people leaving to go to the grove or home or elsewhere. I was shocked, but before halftime I had left the stadium also. It was the first time since 1958 I had ever left an Ole Miss game prior to the Half.

What can be asked (IMHO) and should be asked or considered is as follows:
Is the Grove party more important than the Stadium responsibilities of cheering for the team?
Are we recruiting players that will go to the mat for Ole Miss and the team or are they the kind of kids that do not care about
Tradition, rules, respect and Honor?
Can coaches really control and DISCIPLINE players to adhere to the important values needed to be successful and honorable?
Do we have enough players on board to lead the others in the right direction?

I know those are just a few questions but from what I heard others speak about, all teams have a few rotten apples in the their barrel too, but Ole Miss has way to many players that worry about Booze, garden tool's, video games, and Chillin' than they do about Pride, Sacrifice, Tradition, and Ole Miss. I am very discouraged, but still, Go To Hell L S U.

And don't forget Mackey "worries 'bout dem garden tool's.".

I don't see any leaders left on this team except maybe Brassell. I have to respect that he's willing to play both sides of the ball. Neither of the 3 QB's we've seen this year are leaders (or even decent quarterbacks). I'm sure they have much more ability than what we saw after this coaching staff drained every ounce if talent from them, but don't see any bowl victories in either of them.

When a whole team quits like that, there are absolutely no leaders in the coaching staff or among the players.

On the atmosphere, I honestly can't blame them. We were pretty bad when I was in school, but not even close to this bad. There was a lot of school spirit when I was at Ole Miss, but we always beat Vandy, and beat MSU every other year. And there were very few blowouts!

I try to put things in perspective, and if we sucked this bad when I was a 18-22 year old, would I really watch a 4 hour A$$ whipping, or would I spend time with my girlfriend or at a party?

As a student, I really believed we had a chance to win every single game! This year, I thought we had a real chance to beat BYU, La Tech, Fresno St, Kentucky, Vandy and MSU. We lost 4 of those 6 with 1 to go, and 3 of those teams kicked our butt!

My point is this team has given us no hope, and you need (at the minimum) hope to stay all 4 quarters.

I really believe when we get a coaching staff that gives our players a chance to win games, and the students will come around. I believe in this university, and I definately believe in Archie Manning!

Hotty Toddy!!! We are Ole Miss!!!!

I am tired of hearing that the grove is the problem. 13 straight SEC losses is the problem. But yes I think we are recruiting the wrong kind of players.

I am not blaming the grove at all, just asking, but it wasn't students leaving, it was the adults and old line rebel fans that left really early, myself included so I carry some of the blame.

I would like to see us recruit some players like those from Wisconsin, Nebraska, Ok, Tx.

I really want a coach that will discipline the team or kick some butt to make kids behave.

I still love ole miss.

Guys this is not just a problem at Ole Miss. Everywhere I have worked in the last 10 years, dedication and work take a backseat to drinking and purging. The coaches that are successful are the ones that can keep these young adults focused for 15 weeks. I am tired and prolly rambling. goodnight.
