Mullin had to eat his words

Agree to disagree. I think he's a good coach who would be much more successful at a big time program. I also believe his anti Ole Miss junk is just an act to please his fanbase. If he were coaching at FSU he'd have nickname for UF.

And that shows he IS NOT a good coach. Coach Freeze really impressed me in his post game presser when he spoke of approaching from a standpoint of winning for love of each other rather than hatred towards your opponent. Look at your proven head coaches, Saban, Meyers, Richt, even Kelley at ND. Who of those coaches uses schtick to pander to their fanbase? Zero. Anytime a person acts in that manner they are trying to deflect attention from their shortcomings by drawing attention to others. That is not how you lead. That is not how you mold young men to be the next generation of leaders. That does not grow wholesome character. At a big name program he would just take longer to run it into the ground. That loudmouthed braggart got a small degree of what he deserves. The rest will be paid back in future installments. He has not beaten any quality opponents. He's a one trick pony who needs to get while the gettin is good. I personally hope he stays, he and starkvegas DO deserve each other.Chucky_38 wrote:Agree to disagree. We got a kick out of watching that over & over, too. Hotty Toddy...and thx for a great game, Rebs!rewalters wrote:Actually it was played with less than a minute to play.....but point taken....one of the greatest things I have ever seen the media relations department ever do, I was surprised when I saw it, but felt a great sense of satisfaction....beachbumreb wrote:Tonight, when there was about 3 minutes or so to play, with the score 41-17 Rebels, they played the video clip on the Jumbotron of Mullins saying to his team "we'll never lose to this team again" over and over! Then they played the waaa-waa sound. They also did that after the game was officially over.

This sort of hulla-baloo, the notion that talking down to your rivals from a position of ultimate authority, is a move ripped from the pages of Lane Kiffins book of philosophy.Chucky_38 wrote:Agree to disagree. Last I checked he's not been successful. Um. Anywhere.

That School Up North nonsense was actually taken from his mentor Urban Meyer...that is what Ohio State calls Michigan. And it is childish at best.OMNOB 1A wrote:This sort of hulla-baloo, the notion that talking down to your rivals from a position of ultimate authority, is a move ripped from the pages of Lane Kiffins book of philosophy.Chucky_38 wrote:Agree to disagree. Agree 100%....Now OUR charge is not to become Mullen and State by viewing winning that one ball game as the be all and end all.....now WE need to concentrate on beating quality opponents..and finishing what we start. The MSU game was the most complete game we played all year..and you would much rather have that at the end of the year because it shows the progression that we made during the year.beachbumreb wrote:And that shows he IS NOT a good coach. Next up....beat whatever we see in Birmingham...be that Connecticut, LA Monroe or whoever so that we go into the off season with a good taste in our mouth. Use the bowl practices and the off season to get Bo and his receivers so familiar with each other that they can complete each others sentences (ala either Manning). We will go into next season pretty much knowing who our offensive starters are and that will be HUGE. Find a backup quarterback so we can use Brunetti's strengths as a running back (that would also be huge). Keep feeding Denzel and the rest of these defensive guys raw meat. Get our redshirted kickers ready...and CLOSE the deal on these recruits....particularly RN...rarely have the stars aligned where we have a shot at such a recruit. A blessing has been dropped in our lap (oddly enough with the help of Nutt) where we have a big brother who in addition to being the spark plug for our defense can help deliver us recruiting royalty.
I have never wanted to place too much importance on the State game, but winning last week was vital. We lose that game then we would have ended the season with 4 straight losses and the recurring nightmare of A&M and Vandy. By winning we have momentum that can and should raise expectations for next year. We have the talent. With a few key recruits and depth, and if our staff coaches like they did last Saturday. Big things could be in store.

The statement that State needs to get back to 'mid-season form' is hilarious. The first six games of their season were against: Jackson State (lower division team); Auburn, 3-9, 0-8; Troy, 5-7; South Alabama, 2-11 (played extra game in Hawaii); Kentucky, 2-10, 0-8; and Tennessee, 5-7, 1-7 (the one win being against Kentucky).
I'm positive Ole Miss could have won those six games and been in great 'mid-season form,' too. Northwestern as State's bowl opponent should be just as big a dose of reality as Alabama, LSU, Texas A & M and Ole Miss turned out to be. I've posted before that State is definitely the worst 8-4 team in the country, and Mullen knows it. More smoke and mirrors, please, Dan!
