Tough crowd now-a-days. Wonder what yall would be saying after we lost to USM Archie's senior year. Would Vaught's coaching be questioned? Would we wonder if Archie came into his senior year focused? All this if internet was around of course. Us losing to state could easily happen considering where we play and them putting everything into it. Hopefully we'll win.Rebchuck18 wrote:I think you can throw a blanket over Arky and MSU. Losing to either team would IMO be a step backwards.oxpatchreb wrote:Ahhh yes, I did misunderstand. But ftr, I still think that a loss to MSU is not as bad as a loss to Arky or one of our OOC softies.Rebchuck18 wrote: I think you misunderstood me. I am the senior pastor when it comes to preaching that the MSU game is not the most important game to us. What I am saying is that losing to a team that hasn't beaten a winning team in 3 years would be regression and dilute our accomplishments..... Not because they're our arch rival (in my mind they aren't, LSU is) but because they are not a good football team.

Not really Jim. It is actually a compliment to Freeze that we expect him to beat teams at the very bottom of the conference. Not saying it can't happen.... Just saying it shouldn't happen and would be a step back for the year, as Archie's loss to USM was definitely a step back for that season. I don't think that is a "tough expectation" for any coach to expect them to beat inferior teams.rebeljim wrote:Tough crowd now-a-days. I try not to look ahead to next season, but when I do it does look pretty good. Let's take a look at the QB position. There will only be three/four QBs return that have won an SEC game (Assuming Manziel leaves). Wallace, Marshall, Preskott, and the second string for Mizzou. I think currently in that group Wallace is the winner. Here are the teams losing their QB:
Alabama - Mcarron
LSU - Mettenburger
A&M - Manziel (assumption, pay the man so he'll leave)
Georgia - Murray
Mizzou - Franklin
USCe - Shaw
Vandy - Carter-Samuels
Teams that may be returning a starter but they have been bottom tier
Florida
Arkansas
Kentucky
So when I look at it, we bring in a veteran QB and a great receiving corps think Moncrief comes back, especially with a "down" year compared to what was expected). We also bring back both RBs that carried us through the middle of our season (and this leaves out Dodson and others that are coming up). I think next year could be a special year. Even with some of those teams reloading, it often takes experience in key spots like QB to take a team deep. Now let's finish this season strong, bust out another great recruiting class, and take it to the SEC next year. Keep calm and Hotty Toddy.

Rebchuck18 wrote: I expect 10 next year, and here is why.. The importance of the QB position in the SEC. We will be returning a third year starter at QB who might very well be the pre season All SEC QB. A&M and LSU will likely be starting QBs who have never played an SEC game. ( I know Joeckel has played but not sure he will be A&Ms starter) And A&M's defense will not suddenly become great. And I also think A&M will have a new coach, and LSU won't. Plus our returning QB will have Moncrief, Treadwell, Sanders and Ingram. All of those reasons make A&M and LSU very winnable road games.. And I think we are past Vandy now. That's my take and I'm sticking to it.
just curious - why do you think A&M will have a new coach?

Re: A & M. Some buzz out there that he wants to be a pro coach. He may also receive offers from programs like Southern Cal. A & M certainly has the money to keep him, and they are expanding their stadium to 109,000 so they can say they are the biggest in the land. Sumlin's a good coach, and he parlayed Case Keenum and Johnny Manziel into a high-profile ride. There is at least a chance that he may not want to stay at A & M and will move on.

Just a gut feeling that he may be in California next year. I don't care how much money or how many butts in the seats, College Station ain't L.A.! And I think it is selling him short to say that it is all Manziel or Keenum. He is a good offensive coach and has a great temperment and demeanor for a head coaching position in a big market. And if he were to go there and keep Orgeron, it will be real hard to our recruit them.Titles 'R Us wrote:Re: A & M. Some buzz out there that he wants to be a pro coach. I would definitely see losing to MSU this year as a season/momentum killer. I get it that you're not going to beat your arch rival every year and I certain don't measure a season's success on one game against MSU, but as it's been pointed out this year they really suck! IMO, we have to easily beat Troy at home and at least squeak by MSU in Starkvegas. I truly think we should easily beat them if you look at the matchup on paper. I expect us to be competitive against Mizzou at home. It's a winnable game if we remain at least as healthy as we are today.

Google it. Maybe we beat your arch rival. Certainly LSU is a rivalry, but "officially" MSU is still our arch rival. I don't work or go to family reunions with LSU fans, but I have to deal with MSU garbage daily.JustBlues wrote:We've already beaten our arch rival this year.proud2breb wrote:I would definitely see losing to MSU this year as a season/momentum killer. MSU is not, never has been, and never will be my Arch Rival and I have been an Ole Miss fan longer than the google dudes have been alive. MSU is just the irritating little brother or pesky cousin that you beat in yard ball 80% of the time. LSU is my arch rival...period!

I am 54 years old and during my lifetime, State has only beaten Ole Miss 18 times. Ole Miiss-LSU, on the other hand, has had national title implications. There was a four year period when the only team to beat Ole Miss was LSU and the only team to beat LSU was Ole Miss. There is no such thing as an "official" arch rival. Who is our arch rival is a matter of opinion. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. My opinion is that it is LSU and I have always and will always consider it a step back when State beats Ole Miss. Fortunately, it hasn't happened much. I cannot consider the team that has the worst record since the SEC was formed and the worst west record since the league was divided as much more than a glorified non-conf game.
