Self destructive. We are entering a new year with great hope all around campus. Everyday another article comes out toasting Ole Miss and Oxford as tops in one category or another and our administration again torpedoes it by again self perpetuating a racial or some other "divisive" issue.

And to what benefit does this serve?
I don't think its going to be a big deal. We're still going to be known as Ole Miss for athletic events and being referred to as "The University of Mississippi" is more professional anyways. When I update my resume or interview for a job I certainly don't call my alma mater by its nickname. Don't overreact to this.

It serves to promote the politcally correct agenda!!
Even a bad day as a Rebel is better than a good day with the dawgs!!!!
You're not out yet, huh? Of course you put University of Mississippi on your resume. But, that ALWAYS leads to, "So you went to Ole Miss, huh?" followed by , "I love that place", "Had a great time down there", or "I've never been, but I'd like to". We are identified by everyone as Ole Miss and this is the beginning of the end of 'Ole Miss'. Actually, the beginning started a while ago.jrebel87 wrote:I don't think its going to be a big deal. Clarity....a wonderful thing! Well said. This is a case study in how to derail a time of great momentum and positive energy at Ole Miss. How self destructive these folks are is just mind boggling!lewindha wrote:You're not out yet, huh? Of course you put University of Mississippi on your resume. So now I've been called a racist and a chimp bc I see this differently than some. Very nice!

Think about it like this. If the administration was going to completely do away with the name Ole Miss, they wouldn't do it all at one time. It would cause way too big of a backlash. They would leave it in for athletics (after all, that's where the big donors tend to donate money), and phase it out over time. Seems like we've been down this road before...

Of course we did and the "reasons" that they are no longer going to use it outside of sports (and believe me they will make sure it is purged) will be used to ultimately drop it all together. These same faculty members that are more political than educational, and the administration has a hit list and this is just the next item. They will use their apologists to proclaim that anyone who has a problem with it is overreacting and they will systematically complete their ultimate list..it is not "if", it is merely "when".Dr.X wrote:Did any of you even bother reading the official release from the University about this before going into full freak-out mode?
I read it and I'm all for everything but the Ole Miss thing. Because I believe this is a first step to remove it all together.
I only questioned the Coliseum Drive thing earlier bc I was thinking Lyceum for some reason.
