Yeah... only 4 teams get in, probably 2 undefeated, several with only 1 loss, several more with 2 losses. For a 2 loss to make the cut, they would have to be conference champions! It's just logic.

Need Auburn to lose to Georgia and beat Bama!
If teams keep losing and we possibly work our way up to 6-7 and beat a #1 state team, it could happen.proud2breb wrote:Yeah... only 4 teams get in, probably 2 undefeated, several with only 1 loss, several more with 2 losses. 1) Ole Miss must win out
2) Georgia must beat Auburn
3) 'Bama must beat State
4) Auburn must beat 'Bama
LSU and A & M already have three losses. They are out. If the above four things happen, Ole Miss wins the West. None of the above four things are out of reach. Next week, pull for 'Bama and Georgia during our bye week. Then, the last two weeks, I firmly believe anything can happen, as competitive as the West is, but our winning out is doable.

We can get close without much help, but unfortunately this ain't horseshoes. BTW, I thought you had Bama beating State in your hypothetical scenario where the SEC gets two teams in the playoff. There is no way State would be #1 when they play us if they have one loss. Even if your new scenario holds up, we are #6 and beat an undefeated #1 State....1-5 are all at 1 loss or fewer! We would most likely not pass anyone. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see us get in. It just can't happen without an SEC Championship this year.WildRebel wrote:If teams keep losing and we possibly work our way up to 6-7 and beat a #1 state team, it could happen.
We should be 8 tomorrow. I have to believe Auburn will be 7 since they beat us at home. Auburn or Bama have to lose, so we can eventually get to 7 if we win out. If Oregon loses tonight, we could possibly get to 6 by the Egg Bowl. I think we would pass a 1 loss TCU. Who's going to beat TCU and Arizona State (and Oregon if they escape tonight)? We don't pass a 1 loss Florida State, and they are almost guaranteed to have no more than 1 loss. Even if everyone we need to lose does, the committee will take a 2 loss Big 10 champ over a 2 loss Ole Miss unless we're SEC Champs. We need to somehow pass Bama, Auburn, and State in the playoff standings to get in. It's really just math at this point. An SEC Championship is the trophy we need on our resume to jump back into the top 4.

Yes, I did write that on accident. But I meant if state is undefeated. My whole thinking was, lsu isn't going to lose again and therefore we were basically out.
To my other point...I'm not on the committee but a win against the top ranked team in the nation looks a hell of a lot better than a 1 loss who plays mediocre teams. Just saying. Might not happen but it's wishful thinking.

I think you are wrong. If it were head to head big 10 champ with 2 vs ole miss with 2, I'll bet you a souvenir cup at the playoff you are wrong. The west owned 4 of the top 5 spots in the county at one time, common sense says they are about to beat each other's asses. The comittee is smart enough to recognize that, and the fact that our two loses would have been by a combined 7. Not to mention, the way we lost the auburn game. I also think you are wrong about where auburn will be. Sure they beat us at home, but if you look at the schedule, that was our 5th conf game in a row. It was a bad loss. I also think you are overshooting the number of 1 loss teams that will be left. Tcu will lose again. Florida state is going to lose to Miami or Florida, wait and watch. Either of which is going to drop them tremendously. Arizona st has to play at Arizona. I'm more concerned with getting jumped by Baylor and teams like that.

P.s. I have Tcu losing @Texas.. They remember every now and then they that have players.
We don't HAVE to win the West to make the playoff.
The CFB standings are going to look like
1 State
2 Fla St
3 Oregon
4 Alabama
5 TCU
6 Arizona St
We'll be right behind in a group with Auburn, Baylor and Ohio St.
Either Oregon or Arizona State is guaranteed another loss in the Pac 12 championship. Fla St (Florida), Alabama (State, Auburn) and TCU (at Texas) all have tough games left.
If we win out, we'll be in the mix. In all likelihood, we'll be left out at No. 5 or 6. But all it would take is one or two of the right upsets.
You never know what can happen. In 2007, LSU dropped its last regular season game, its second loss of the season, and fell to No. 7. A couple of weeks later, they were headed to the national championship.

This is exactly right. It's a thin one but do your part and watch the rest fall into playTitles 'R Us wrote:1) Ole Miss must win out

Sure, I'll take your souvenir cup from the playoff game. Though I'm not sure how you're going to get one if you lose the bet [emoji6] forget the 1 loss teams, there are likely 2 undefeated then. We would be be of 3-5 SEC 2 loss teams, why pick us? I hope we sneak in to Atlanta.MageeRebel425 wrote:proud2breb wrote:We can get close without much help, but unfortunately this ain't horseshoes. BTW, here is how the playoff committee is instructor to evaluate teams.

playoff committee guidelines wrote:Committee will be instructed to place an emphasis on winning conference championships, strength of schedule and head-to-head competition when comparing teams with similar records and pedigree (treat final determination like a tie-breaker; apply specific guidelines).
