6 turnovers leading to 27 points. No OL for a running game that is predictable in that in 92 first downs this year, we have run the ball for a .13 per yard average. Enough said.

Yet, we keep on running on first down.

Doesn't take the defense much studying film to realize we are going to run on first down 96% of the time.

This from Chuck on Spirit board
The Rebels have had 351 first down plays this year.

201 have been runs (57%); 150 passes (43%). (This number is skewed because against teams when we had a big lead and didn't want to run up the score any worse, they ran nearly every time on first down.) The "real" stat in games that were close is 54% run, 46% pass on first down.

On first down, the Rebs have run 55 zone run plays - inside, read and outside combined. They have averaged 5.21 yards per play. Certainly that is skewed with some big runs, but average is average and certainly not 12 yards on 92 carries.

The power (gap scheme) plays and other run play designs have been less effective.

If that's really true, we must pass a hell of a lot more when we win!

I consider the 10-7 loss at LSU a close game...

LSU- 14 plays on first down
11 runs, 3 passes

Auburn- 34 plays on first down
17 passes, 16 runs, 1 FG (end of half) balanced approach kept us in the game but 2 fourth quarter turnovers cost us!

Arkansas- 28 plays on first down
18 runs, 10 passes. Pretty phenomenal when you consider we were trying to get back in the game for most of the game. First half was closer to 80% runs on first down.
