BCS vs Playoff...Different system, equal controversy!

So we have a playoff this year, but the games are set and there is just as much controversy.

While I don't completely disagree with the final committee rankings, I think there are some fair arguments.

TCU's- How can you drop 3 spots after beating your opponent 55-3?

Baylor's- How could TCU have ever be ranked higher than them since they won head to head. (With respect to the previous playoff committee polls)

My only problem with the final rankings is that they made the prior rankings misleading. I hope we own TCU in the Peach Bowl! But if I was a TCU fan watching their game Saturday, I would have no doubt TCU had protected their #3 playoff ranking with a dominating win. Once again, controversy is here in the National Championship talk!

How will this year change things going forward? Will they have an 8 team playoff to try and correct it? How do you fix it?

4 or 8 or 16. Someone will be left out and someone will wonder why. People need to quit crying about being left out and just win games.

I saw this coming. There have been people all season saying that we needed 8 teams in a playoff even before we had the first season with 4. Right now, the old-line bowls are being given their due with 4 teams in the mix. I don't think the Sugar, Orange, Rose, Cotton and Fiesta have any complaints about being cast as the top tier bowls in the country with the best matchups and payouts. And the Peach has to be giddy about being chosen as the sixth bowl to participate in this rotation.

It doesn't matter how many teams are chosen and who chooses them. There will always be a fifth or sixth or ninth or tenth team, etc. that is unhappy. Let's just let it go and see how it works out.

As for TCU and Baylor, they have a solution in hand for the fact that they were not chosen for the playoff. Have a championship game like the other Power-5 leagues. If you don't do that, then shut the **** up!

The big 12 will add 2 teams very soon since u need at least 12 teams for the championship game. Rumors have it Cinn. and tiger high.

I saw the rumors about expansion. I would think Houston is a better fit for the Big Twelve, Minus Two, than either Cincinnati or Memphis State. Houston used to be a part of the old Southwest Conference and just built a new stadium. For that matter, why not ask either SMU or Rice to join the league? They couldn't be any worse on the field than Kansas and Iowa State have been. They were also a part of the old SWC. I don't understand how West Virginia fans, BTW, can stand all the travel they have to do for road games.

I believe the committee is supposed to work from scratch every week instead of using the previous week's rankings as a baseline.

Also, I think 8 teams is inevitable at some point, so the five power conferences all get their champions in as automatics.

Why Tiger high? Because of one descent season? Mempho town... in the Big Twelve???
I'd have to see it to believe it. And recruiting Memphis would become a lot more tangled.
Short view: adding them would water down the conference, in my opinion. I mean, seriously. Does that mean they will take anyone to get to 12?
And I understand the fact that it's a (semi) large town, but Memphis? Well. Come to think of it, they might fit. Okie's coach fits the mold. So why not?
Memphis fans would pee all over themselves.

IMO it would be a mistake to invite Memphis into the Big 12, but if they start getting a share of that money, they might finally upgrade the Liberty Bowl stadium.

The really sad part about it is even if it were a eight team playoff this year we would be left out. Does anybody believe that Baylor, Tcu, Florida State or Michigan State could actually beat Ole Miss on the field. Do you think they would be favored by Vegas over Ole Miss. If you want a real play off committee why not just use Vegas. They actually would have skin in the game. The people on the play off committee think they have to do this or that and in reality could care less who the best four teams are. They are either politically motivated or fairly clueless. TCU beat it's last opponent 55-3 and dropped three places. Baylor also beat TCU head to head and are behind them. Ole Miss beat MSU head to head by two touchdowns and is sitting right behind them in the polls. That tells me all I need to know about the people on the committee.

I see a couple of issues with what you are saying. First vegas has picked Tcu to beat us by 3 points. And secondly Baylor beat TCU.

Brain fart on the Baylor/TCU game. Some times things don't type the way my brain wants them to. Not a fan of the committee. You have given a handful of people too much power. I would take the play off with the old BCS system in a heart beat over the committee. It would totally suck to be left the first team out this year knowing OM is one of the top eight teams in the country especially after beating two of the teams that would be in.

While I personally think we "could" beat any of those teams on a given day, I have to admit we could certainly lose to any of those teams also. We got whipped by a bad Arkansas team, and lost to two 4 loss teams.

As much as that game killed my soul (mainly bc of the way we lost, not bc of who it was to), I wouldn't necessarily call Arkansas a "bad team" It took them a while before they came away with an SEC win but they were always right there, they were in every game and were competitive, they just needed to learn how to win - much like we did a few years back. Alabama barely escaped Fayetteville with a win. Their SEC wins this year are nothing to flinch at, meaning they aren't just beating Kentucky and Vanderbilt...

There is no bad team in the SEC West. All seven are going to bowls. Three are going to New Year's Six bowls. It's brutal. A two or three loss team in the SEC West could win any other league.

True. However "Barely escaping" still counts as a win... And it's defiantly not equal to getting your ass whipped. We came back strong, but that loss hurt the checkbook.
