I had an interesting conversation about the Bama game and I just had to share my thoughts on it... what do you guys think as well.

Today we were discussing the Bama game and the Ole Miss Defense and the fact that Ole Miss was so gassed as the game wore on and the guy I was talking to and I came to an interesting conclusion:

With the "QuickStrike" tempo offense that is being groomed to take over the SEC by storm it occurred to us that recruiting just got a little weird and out of the ordinary for whomever tries to implement it... In order to make a deep run in the BCS using this scheme it will be necessary to do 2 things...1. you must have top end 5* offensive players because you will probably only get to fill 25 scholarship players on the offensive side of the ball. 2. The rest of your available scholarship players (50-60) have to be on the defensive side of the ball because the "QuickStrike" is going to score fast and get off the field and leave the defense to try to get off the field as quick as possible (not a given against teams like Bama) most likely being on the field for over 70% of the night in any given game making depth a "Must Have" issue...I had never thought of it in that light before but I thought it was interesting...I expect that is part of the reason that Ole Miss's Offensive line always seems to be so "thin" depth wise and a major reason that it always seem that they struggle to maintain adequacy... what do you guy think?

I agree........and it seems that CHF understood this ages ago........look at the depth in DB and DL for us and the lack of depth in the OL....he recruits depth where he needs it (or better yet; where he WILL NEED it).

On the defensive line we will have to start platooning with at least 2 four man DL's where the whole starting group gets off the field and a new group comes in. This is the only way to handle this even with spread offenses. DB's are required on spread offensive teams as the are running all the time it seems. OM must have athletes in all areas to compete. Glad we have a QB.
