Once again the PC folks win.
Bjork showed his true colors. Very disappointed in this decision.

Even a bad day as a Rebel is better than a good day with the dawgs!!!!
Got news for u, "Ole Miss" and "Rebels" will eventually be gone as well. I don't care what anyone says, it'll be "Gone With The Wind".1OLEMISSREBEL wrote:Once again the PC folks win.Bjork showed his true colors. Very disappointed in this decision.

Sadly I believe you are correct
Even a bad day as a Rebel is better than a good day with the dawgs!!!!
Well here's my take on this. First, let me say I'm all for with sticking with traditions and principles that things are built on. Having said that, this is where things of this nature get shady and people of in the positions to make decisions are in a tough position trying to please everyone; which is next to impossible.
The truth of the matter is a majority of African Americans see these things as racial symbolism. Whether we agree on that or not, it is what it is. Now, the choice to make changes falls on those people up top and when they try to eliminate possible "racial barriers", then the other crowd are disappointed and felt as if they gave in. I'm an optimistic person and truly believe these changes were made to try and create a positive vibe at our school. Some may dissagree, that's your right and opinion.
To take it a step further, lets look at it from an athletic side. A large majority of players are African American....that's a fact. What if things of this nature starts getting out of hand(racial divide) and these top recruits we so dearly love notice and feel the same way about the traditions of our school? They don't come and we slide back down into bottom feeders in sports. Then the sports fans complain about that. That's only a small piece to the puzzle and just an example in my head. My point is, it's almost a lose/lose situation for the administrators.
Once again, I'm trying to reason with things I don't necessarily agree with, but as a person with good in my heart, I see where these decisions are difficult and a sensitive situation.

I agree, we had to get rid of everything. I don't like it, but understand it. I've kept my flags in my room with other items now deemed racist. I don't like the world we live in now, headed the wrong way. But it's the only world I got, so I'll just hold my nose and go along with the status quo. And in another 10 years or so, I'll ration in my mind the same way when we change Ole Miss Rebels to some awful new name.WildRebel wrote:Well here's my take on this. Well, we can talk about what changes are happening, how it used to be or what non fans think all we want. There is nothing that can happen to take my feeling that takes me over when one of our Ole Miss teams takes the field/court away from me. Anticipation, chills and excitement all at once.

I read one article that said they wanted it done last year but the "timing and logistics " were off.

Bork said something about the band didn't have enough time last year to replace it with other songs. But obviously have now, so bye bye Dixie.1OLEMISSREBEL wrote:WildRebel wrote:Who knows? I guess it's a possibility. But, I believe this has been in the works for quite some time now.

Slowly Ole Miss is leaving some of it's fans behind. It is sad when a few dictate for the majority and go directly against it's wishes. It is and has been my experience that when someone cries racism he is without a doubt the biggest racist in the bunch. I'm offended that the leadership has decided that it wants sissyland instead of Dixieland. I am not ashamed of my heritage and it is sad that some seem that they are. I'm old enough to realize that since I'm a middle aged white southern male that I am really in the most discriminated against class in the country. I am a fan of the Ole Miss Rebels, although not as much as I was before all the PC BS started. I think what they are trying to tell me and others like me is that they simply don't want our support any longer. I've started listening.
Got news for u. If u go around our campus, u might be surprised just how liberal our on students are. All history that happened before the internet, just doesn't matter. Us middle age white men just don"t know what's good for us, so shut up and do what they say. My best advice, just smile, hold your nose, and keep on trucking. The world will only continue heading left until our Lord comes back down and puts an end to it. Until then, better get ready to say goodbye to "Ole Miss" and "Rebels", cause those WILL be changed also. I bet within 10 years both will be gone. But it is what it is, so let it be written, so let it be done.55chevy wrote:Slowly Ole Miss is leaving some of it's fans behind. P.S. I think Vitter has an agenda and is determined to carry it out. And that is to make us to be just another liberal college community. To save us from our on racist past, and to lead us into that promising land known as LIBERALISM. God help us one and all.

Although we disagree on a lot of stuff we agree on this. The term Ole Miss is the ultimate goal. When it goes they can kiss my Rebel A$$. I don't blame the kids. They aren't old enough to know better. They are being indoctrinated from a early age. I blame the so called leadership. I've never thought much of anybody wanting to tell me how I should think even if they think it is for my own good. Life is all about living with the choices you make for yourself. For the most part I don't need any liberal telling me how I should feel/think.
