Just got off the phone with Ole Miss AD Pete Boone and director of finance John Hartwell. Here's what they had to say about the new Jumbotron that's supposed to replace the old one at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium:
It will be big: The actual screen is 84 feet wide by 48 feet tall and it's supposed to be HD quality. Also included in the construction is a new sound system and a screen on the back side of the structure that will list upcoming events, etc...
The cost: Hartwell said four bids have been submitted for the project, ranging from 5.2 million to 7.7 million. Hartwell and Boone said the winning bid would be chosen on Wednesday.
Who's paying: TeleSouth, which is paying for this in exchange for a media rights package at Ole Miss.
When will it be done: Hartwell said construction would take about two months. If all goes well, it could be done by mid-July so that tests could be run to make sure everything's right by the opening football game.

...all of this makes perfect sense, and with that info, we can all expect to see "are you ready?" in HD this comming season.
I am more or less looking forward to the new sound system, though.

That's what I don't like. 'Supposed' to be HD quality does not mean that it WILL BE HD quality.rebelliousb wrote: it's supposed to be HD quality.

well, if Telesouth told me they wanted to take the "cheap" bid, that would tell me a lot about the quality product Telesouth intends to offer us over the same period. If I'm trying to sell my product, 'm gonna show you that only the best will do.

It is encouraging that it's not Ole Miss paying for it. The athletic department has a history of taking the cheap route while Telesouth will probably pony up the money. I doubt they'll take the highest quality (bid), but I figure they'll take a nice upper mid-range product that will be impressive and make us all happy in the end.
GO REBELS!!!
