I am trying to figure out which bowl our Rebels will be attending. Based on information gathered from the SEC website. Here is how the SEC bowl tie-ins shake out:
The Southeastern Conference has agreements to send nine of its member institutions to postseason bowl games following the 2008 season. The winner of the SEC Championship Game will automatically participate in the Bowl Championship Series comprised of the Sugar, Rose, Orange and Fiesta Bowls.

The Capital One (2nd), will then make its pick following the BCS selections. The bowl must select the team with the next best overall record or a team within one win of the team with the next best overall record.

The Outback, Chick-fil-A and AT&T Cotton Bowls will work with the conference office to determine picks 3-5. The Cotton Bowl has the first preference of teams from the Western Division and the Outback Bowl has first preference of teams from the Eastern Division. The Cotton or Outback Bowl can select teams outside of its divisional preference, but must not select them before the opposite bowl selects from its divisional preference. The Chick-fil-A Bowl has the selection of preference following the Cotton and Outback Bowls.

In selections 6-7, the AutoZone Liberty and Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowls will make their selections, not in any specific order, but in consultation with the SEC Office. The Bowls will rank available qualified teams in order of preference. If there are no similarities in the order of selection, the bowls will be granted its selection. If the bowls rank the same teams in preference, the team involved in the process would get its preference of which bowl to participate.

The Petro Sun Independence Bowl will receive the eighth selection and the Papajohns.com Bowl will have the ninth selection of available SEC teams.

We storm into Baton Rouge and tame the Tigers and follow it up with a harrowing 3-OT win in the Egg Bowl to finish 8-4 and head to Dallas, the land of Cotton.

I agree.

8 wins Cotton or Citrus.

Book your rooms in Nashville or Shreveport.
It's not insane to suggest that the Rebels have the best defensive line in college football.

I agree. Unless LSU loses to Arkansas, we're not going to the Cotton and the Peach bowl has said before that they won't take us.

I'd be more than happy with the John Ford Memorial Orange Mound Bowl.

There is still a bit of football left. If LSU does not turn things around, they are looking at a solid 2 more losses to put them at 8-4. They were destroyed by Florida and Georgia, and struggled with Auburn. At this point, Ole Miss and Alabama should beat LSU without much trouble. Georgia seems like a lock for the Capital One, SC for the Outback. I assume at 8-4, we would go to the Cotton and LSU at 8-4 would go to the Peach.

Vandy will have 6 or 7 wins, and Kentucky could have 6 to 8 wins (Kentucky with 8 wins goes to the Peach Bowl). Arkansas will likely only have 5 wins, but if LSU is bad enough, Arkansas could end with 6.

Nashville maybe, but unless TN and Auburn finish much more strongly than they are playing now, there won't be enough SEC teams eligible for one to land in Shreveport.

I still think if we win out (granted a big "if") we are in Dallas

On the Peach Bowl/ Chick-fil-a bowl, I am curious as to where you get your info? Not callin' you out, for certain, but, if this were true, it would kinda bum me out seen as how I could see Ole Miss go bowling and not even have to leave "home".

I just read somewhere this week that the Chic-Fil-A bowl thought we'd be an 'exciting choice'. I'll look and see if I can find the quote. Who was it that said they wouldn't take us?

Where and when did you hear this? Can you point me to an article or something?

I think that if it came down to us being 8-4 and LSU having the same record, we would get the nod to the Cotton or the Peach bowl, as we would have beaten the Tigers IN Baton Rouge, and most likely, at night. And considering that Ole Miss has been winning in every game we've played, and also a legitimate shot at winning them all when the 4th quarter rolls around, I think we would be welcome at any of the previously mentioned bowl games, as long as we come to play for the rest of the season.

All things considered, I would much rather go to the Peach bowl over the Cotton bowl mainly because our pass defense cannot hold big name quarterbacks like Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel, as ESPN predicts Oklahoma or Missouri to play in the Cotton Bowl in their week 10 bowl predictions:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/bowlproje ... 08&week=10

In the Peach Bowl, ESPN says either Fla State or North Carolina will go (both of which are right now in the top 25), and a win against either one is entirely plausible.

Either way, I'm just glad we're going bowling, and even a possibility at a January bowl game. Hotty Toddy
