Im not going to laugh till I see the results. Im sure Arkansas was laughed at when they hired HDN in 1997. They got him from Boise State and his only season there he only won 5 games. He ended up being a decent coach for Arkansas.

The Auburn hire could make the Eddie O experiment look like genius. (Is he going to Tennessee/Knoxville?)

But the situation seems to be that there are not any top tier coaches available for hire at this time, not any top tier coaches that are willing to take over / walk into the Auburn (soap) opera.

Besides - I still hold ill will towards tubby anyways. He got what was coming to him. I recall his press conference right after the state win and him saying "I have everything I need here, I'm not going anywhere." The very next morning he was in Auburn stating " I want to be in a place where I can win a national championship."

Where's that ring tubby?

I don't know about O going to Tennessee but I did see across the bottom of the screen on ESPN last night that Monte Kiffen notified the Bucs team that he is not returning next year and is going to Tennessee.
As for Tubby, I no longer hold any ill will toward him. Yes, he left under shady circumstances and should have handled it differently. I know there are things in my life that I wish I had handled differently but, thank goodness, I am not in a position where I have to relive it over and over through the magic of the media and the internet.
If Tubby had stayed I don't believe Eli comes to Ole Miss. Remember Mack Brown is friends with Archie and he was courting Eli as was Virginia. If memory serves, Tubs wasn't really going after Eli.

Prior to his one season at Boise St., he had two eleven win seasons at Murray St. and won two Ohio Valley Conference Championships. He took over a Boise St. team that went 2-10 the season before and won 4 games his one and only season there...not much of an improvement, but still, improvement.

Gene Chizik took over an Iowa St. team that had gone 4-8 a season prior and proceeded to go 3-9 and 2-10...and leaves Iowa St. on a 10 game losing skid.

Houston Nutt proved he could be a head coach, and nobody laughed at Arkansas when they hired him. He took a bad Murray State team and made it very good and took a bad Boise St. team and made it better. And In spite of his lackluster performance during his one season at Boise St., Nutt was generally viewed as a solid hire for Arkansas. Gene Chizik proved he cannot coach...he took a bad Iowa St. team and made it worse. But Auburn hired him anyway.

And that, my friend, is something to laugh at...laugh and point at.

What worries me is that they will be after Nutt again next year.

In Tubby's defense on this point, he did go undefeated one year and got snubbed by the BCS god's.

I too am loving the meltdown that is occurring on the rabbit farm.
This is my word, and as such is beyond contestation.

All I want to know is what were they thinking. They have just screwed themselves so bad!!

I know how you guys feel about Houston, and you think that Arkansas made a mistake by "getting rid of/running off" Houston Nutt, so be objective here, and answer a couple of questions for me.

Do you think Auburn made a bigger mistake?
and,
Do you think Auburn made a better hire?

Just curious.

Yes I think they did. They ran off a winning coach who knew the SEC and could recruit and won the SEC.
No they didn't make a better hire. They hired a guy who has two years SEC experience as a coordinator. Bad hire all around I say.
Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if they had gotten a guy with a great college record who had proven himself. Even if it was in another conference it would have been better than this hire.

Only time will tell though. He may win championships.

Bigger mistake than Arkansas? Yes.
Better hire than Arkansas? Absolutely not.

Whether it was a "mistake" for Arkansas to part ways with Nutt? I don't know. I think there was so much damage done in that relationship that there probably had to be a change.
No matter what I personally think of Petrino he has shown that he can win in college as a head coach. Chizik hasn't.

Auburn made a huge mistake. At least when ARK ran off Nutt, they tried to get a coach who had proven he could win, so the move was not nearly as bone headed as Auburn's move. I also think it was time for a change for Arkansas simply based on what the fans really wanted. The situation feels much different for Aub than what happened at Ark.

I know a lot of people don't like Tubberville, but the guy is a great coach and he would have had his team back on track soon. The guy has proven he can win over and over, and he probably would have done better this year if there weren't so many interferences with his coaching form Alumni. No way anyone does much better over there on a long term basis if they don't let the coaches do their thing without interference.

I also know a lot of Ole Miss people have a bad taste in their mouth about how things went down here at OM. However, I have it on good authority that TT changed 100% from when he left OM, and that he's not the same guy that left out of here surrounded in controversy. This info comes first hand directly from someone very close to TT and the Auburn football program, so I have no doubt that it's true.

People make mistakes, but the good ones learn from them and I believe that TT learned from his mistakes. Like him or not though, the guy is a solid and proven coach, and if he doesn't show up somewhere coaching again, college football just lost a great coach.

That is an insult to rabbits everywhere... but I agree.
It's not insane to suggest that the Rebels have the best defensive line in college football.

Auburn really forgot how bad they sucked before tubs. I really have no sympathy for anything that lives in that state. Tubs was an ass that got what he deserved--bottom line--and AU can waller in the mud with him!!
