I saw that little internet piece as well, the only problem is that it is true. I have a source that is best friends with TT. I knew what was going on long before that email started getting around.
Why don't you worry about Auburn's problems, you have plenty to keep you busy?
Well, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree because I'm every bit as confident in my source and they said it's malarky.
And I'm sorry, this is a public message board isn't it? Is there some accepted custom becoming popular where rivals and such don't discuss things or talk about events that relate to both of them in various ways? If so, I wasn't aware of it. Not sure what your problem is. I've been respectful of both your school and your coach. I just think Sexton is a scumbag and that it's no big deal if someone on a team's coaching staff wants to take an offer to go coach at their alma mater, whether it's happening for our gain or for someone else's. Is that some kind of unpardonable offense?
Everyone's a little touchy over here considering the Hog fans who've come over and bugged the ever living crap out of us. So when an opposing team's fan comes over, we go on the defensive.
IMO, who gives a crap whether TT was forced out or resigned. I hear what you're saying about Sexton and we've heard it before (also from the Arkansas fans). It was a smooth move requesting he be removed from talks.
I have a question about that, though. Do you think a bigger name candidate would've agreed to that demand? I mean Chizick(sp?) wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire. He'd probably have given up his first born had Auburn asked.
Sorry, I didn't mean to bug the crap out of anyone.
And I don't know if a bigger name would have agreed to that. Then again, I think we were looking at other candidates that were not with Sexton for the same reason. It so happened that when we decided to target Chizik, he was with Sexton and we made demand #1 be that Sexton wasn't part of things.
I'll drop this line of discussion now out of respect for the moderator. I just wanted to respond so you knew I wasn't ignoring.
Why is it hard to believe that an Auburn fan knows someone who knows their (ex)Coach? Hell, TitanTiger might know him himself.
This guy/girl has done nothing to earn this berating. He simply said Sexton would give us nightmares. Hog fans told us this, our own people have mentioned Sexton's tactics, and now an Auburn fan is saying it with respect to their old coach.
People have gotten too sensitive.
I hate to see Rocker go. It was obvious watching the improvement of the D-Line over the course of the season that he did a great job. Can't blame him for wanting to go to his Alma mater.
I'm in agreement with lewindha. I like people like this around. Sorry that we are all a little touchy, Tiger...and I apologize if I came off as personally attacking you.
PS: As far as Rocker goes, I think this just comes off as a disappointing aftertaste that maybe some people on staff don't feel like this is "a winning program".
Luckily, I do have a feeling that he is in it for his Alma.
I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance.
I think it sucks. We can't even hold a great staff together for more than one year. And of all schools to swoop in this freaking late and steal one of our coaches...it HAD to be Auburn. Unbelievable.
Upgrade huh? We'll see. I can't believe that Rocker spent five years with Nutt at Arkansas and Auburn wasn't interested in "one of their own" but as soon as he gets to Ole Miss they are beating down our door.
Losing coaches to Auburn is getting really darn old.

Given the upswing you guys are on, I don't think he'd have left except that it was the alma mater.

Well, I know a lot of fans always spoke of Rocker eventually "coming home" with high hopes. But we had two good DL coaches in Don Dunn and Terry Price. But since they weren't retained, we had an opening. It's only natural to grab an AU grad with six years of SEC coaching experience.

Yeah and luckily he was just at Ole Miss where Auburn can pick whoever they want and there is no way a coach would turn you down to stay here.

Ridiculous.
I really don't think that was it. We went after Stacy Searels at Georgia too. The only reason we didn't get him is that he's likely to get an offer to become an offensive coordinator in the next year or so, either by moving up at UGA or getting an offer somewhere else. He's just at a different stage than Rocker is right now so a lateral move in terms of position didn't make sense. I don't think Rocker was thought to be in line for a DC position in that same shorter timeframe.
"It was a tough decision for him because we've had a great working relationship for six years," Nutt said. "But it's his alma mater and he's got family less than an hour away, so it was something he felt like he needed to do. It's a tough loss, but I understand why he did it."
I really don't think it had that much to do with whether he was at Ole Miss or somewhere else. But it's his school, he's getting a raise and family lives very close by.

I agree with Tiger and Coach Nutt. If I was Rocker and in the same situation, I'd bolt too. It doesn't get much better than being at your alma mater doing a job you love and closer to family. Rocker is a helluva coach and I wish him the best in 11 out of 12 of his games every year.

I don't have a problem with Sexton negotiating the best deal he can get for his clients. What bothers me is the less than honest ways he does it, such as floating a coach's name out there for various positions when he knows d*** well there isn't anything to it. He just wants the fans to start freaking out and emailing the administration and pressure them into offering some inducement or sweetening of the contract to make it go away.

I agree, but no one ever said that agents had to have morals and respect for the schools and fans that his clients work for. Sexton is probably more than happy to take on this role to keep his clients looking golden and make them, and in turn himself, more money.
Look, the guy got a chance to go home. More power to him, and thank him for his service.
I do think that if we are going to sweeten the pot for assistant coaches and give them more than one year contracts, we do need to start adding buyout clauses and maybe non-compete clauses as well.
