It may be ok. My point wasn't that it was good or bad necessarily, but rather that it puts a lot of pressure on your defense if you pass a lot. Personally, I'll take a good running game over a good passing game any day, but balance is crucial. You certainly aren't going to have a good running team if you can't pass these days. I realize that last year isn't a good indication with the injuries you had in the backfield, but Petrino has a pass happy history. Of course, at a school like Louisville life is a little different than in the SEC. Is Wingo your go-to guy on running plays? He looks like he could be a beast given the opportunity.spudhog wrote:That's why Ark is going to run more this season. Pass happy offenses, like Petrino's, are tough on defenses. You have to have a much better defense to get the same numbers as a more traditional team. There is a reason that all but two current SEC coaches are run first and no pass happy coach has been successful in the SEC since the Spurrier Florida days.spudhog wrote:This is going to be a good game, as of now. Injuries and etc will reshape this game before it comes along. If the Ark QB spends all of his day on his back, OM will win. Ark defense will be better but I am not sure how much.
It's ok to pass for more yards than you run as long as you can do both IMO.

ha. Depends on what day of the week it is on our RB situation:) One thing Petrino believes in is competition. The depth chart he just released is filled with and's and or's rather than 1's and 2's. Even during practices, he'll have a freshman practice with the first unit for a couple of days to get them all used to the other. I say all of that and I think they'll do what they did last year. Go with the hot hand, give it to Green and short yardage. I doubt we have a 1k back but could have 3 or 4 with more than 500.
I agree, you have to be able to do both. And Petrino commented in the off season he threw too much last year. But, when Michael Smith got hurt and the o-line shown a lot of inconsistency with run blocking. And you have mallett/wr's it kind of dictates what you do. Just saying moving the chains is what helps the defense. IMO, it doesn't matter how you get the 10 yards.
Our offense has just as many questions, if not more due to more talent, to answer than the defense. You don't win without the other in the SEC. OM showed last season you can have a really good defense but if your offense is inconsistent/turning it over then it will eventually negate that.
Bama was balanced last season. Probably not statistically but they threw it when they had too and vice versa. Every team in the country needs that.

Really looking forward to this game. It is an interesting match of strength and weakness. Your D-line might be the best we face all year, it will be interesting to see how our line holds up. If we don't win I will be sick, was the last time we lost 3 straight to yall?

I know that our series with Ark is the tightest in the West: 26-29-1 y'all all-time. According to www.cfbdatawarehouse.com, our last decent streak against y'all was 90-93; yours was 04-07.venturahog wrote:Really looking forward to this game. I am changing my prediction on this game now that Masoli is not a factor. I think we`ll have a difficult time and it is a toss up now. There may be more to this Masoli story than we know.

What the hell does that mean?
Masoli is a factor. His presence has increased everyone's competition level. He has helped our team whether he ever sees the game field or not. I never took him into account as a player when I looked at our upcoming season because he had not yet been cleared to play. From what I can tell, Nutt has been preparing as if Masoli wouldn't be able to play as well. We'll be fine.rebforpresident wrote:I am changing my prediction on this game now that Masoli is not a factor. I think we`ll have a difficult time and it is a toss up now.
