Lambuth in Jackson, TN. He won there I think for 2 years, but they cancelled football (THEY CANCELLED FOOTBALL) and then he was hired as OC at ASU.
Think millsaps...that's Lambuth...

They cancelled everything. The story is that Lambuth was promised alot of cash by a donor and they pulled from NAIA and applied to go NCAA DII on those promises. They committed alot of money to facility upgrades and an NCAA application

ncluding hiring a DI assistant to be their head coach, Freeze).
The story is that the donor was unhappy with the fact that the school didnt consult him on the new Presidential hire and pulled all his financial backing. This put the University in dire financial straights and they were never able to pull out of the spiral. They lost SACS accreditation last year and closed their doors in the Summer.
They actually never cancelled football until they closed the doors as it was their only money producer in the end.

Nah, Lambuth athletics had NO ethics. Which is another reason Im against the Freeze hire.

Ok I am done with this. You just went too far. You want to attack his lack of experience and what not fine that is in the spirit of a good debate. You just went out of bounds attacking him personally. From everything I have read some one who is a good hearted stand up Christian guy and you already have him as an ethically questionable character before finding out one fact to the contrary before he is officially hired waaaaayyy out of bounds. I will not argue this insanity anymore. Whoever asked he was 20-5 at Lambuth.

I realize others have stated this recently, but I would have found it hard to get excited about a 5-20 coach (with only 2 years hc experience) from Iowa coming to the SEC, but Chizik won a national championship and his less than stellar Iowa tenure has been long forgotten.
Freeze, on the other hand, is on the rise, and a 10-2 record at any school deserves respect. One could say it was only Ark. St., but the fact of the matter is, regardless of where you coach, winning is relative to the teams you play. Ark. St. Plays and has won against the "bamas" on their schedule, relative to the teams they play. Just as every community college team plays a bama, at their level. Freeze will now try to develop our talent to beat teams that are relative to our level, and I believe he will be successful, because he understands being an underdog and has proven he can develop less talent to win the big games.
Lastly, I don't know; you don't know; we don't know; if this going to turn in our favor, but I like a coach coming in where his fans love him, his players love him, and he has success relative to where he has coached. As opposed to Nutt, who was ran out of town, but had won some games.
My rant has now ended. Hotty Toddy.

One year is not a large enough sample upon which to measure success. I could list hundreds of bad coaches who have had one good year. That's the problem. He has one year of experience as a head coach and only a couple as an assistant and that was not exactly studying under the best of coaches. I like Hugh and wish him well, not only because he is the coach of my team now but because he is a good guy. There is nothing in his background, however, that leads me to believe he has the least idea of how to compete at this level. Let's hope he is a very quick study. He is going to have to abandon the high school offense that works at Lambuth and occasionally at Arkansas State and he is going to have to very quickly learn about SEC defenses and somehow convince an SEC quality defensive coordinator to join him.

Chizik's championship was bought and paid for. Regardless of any findings of the NCAA, you will never convince me Scam Newton wasn't paid.

Chizik had twenty years of experience as an assistant coach in addition to having twice the head coaching experience that Freeze has. No one is saying that Freeze won't be successful. He very well may be. There just isn't anything on his resume to indicate that he knows what it takes to compete at this level making him an extremely risky hire. It was unneccessary for us to take such a large risk given the resources that we have.

Yes, and then there's the 20 years experience. No one can rationalize this hire to me. You can be happy about if you want, or excited. But you can't rationalize it.

It is an astounding hire and I can imagine that the rest of the SEC is laughing at us. As I've said, I like Hugh personally, but he has absolutely nothing to recommend him as an SEC head coach. He is the least experienced coach I have ever seen in the SEC and at a time when the SEC is by far the toughest conference there is. He is going to have to learn the ropes of handling an SEC team, abandon or at least seriously modify his offensive mentality and figure out how to get an SEC quality defensive coordinator in addition to working to salvage a recruiting class or we have a very long and depressing road in front of us.

Who is going to be the DC? Who would want to work under a guy with this amount of experience? Unless he hires someone who's never been a DC, I can't imagine someone saying, "Sure you've been in college football for 5 minutes, I'd like you to be my boss."
