you could be right - I know (or think) that Matt was on the Tenn coaching staff at one point as well....

Luke came to Duke following two seasons at Tennessee where he served as recruiting coordinator while coaching the tight ends and assisting with the offensive line.
During Luke’s two-year stay (2006-07) in Knoxville, the Volunteers went 19-8 with one SEC Eastern Division championship and two appearances in the Outback Bowl. In 2007, Tennessee tight end Chris Brown caught 41 passes for 282 yards and six touchdowns while fellow end Brad Cottam’s 31-yard touchdown reception proved to be the difference in the Vols’ 21-17 win over Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl.
On the recruiting front, Tennessee’s 2007 class was rated third-best nationally by Rivals.com and fourth-best in the country by Scout.com.

Matt was a disciplined O-lineman and dominated the man in front of him. Not cocky, confident. He'll be a great O-line coach for us and he'll teach our O-line to think. If you're not doing your job he'll fire you and find someone else. Book it.

I think they worked out and Hugh Nall was the best line coach I have been around and he coached Matt so he knows what it takes to build a line. He was only a tight end coach when here with Cut in his first job. So I wouldn't relate Cut unsuccessful recruiting to him.
Hugh Nall didn't put up with any BS. If you didn't do your job it was get the f off my offense.

Never met a man that could use so many curse words so elegantly and so frequently in a sentence. He made Todd Wade and Tutan into NFL players. I really wish he was the one coach that was coming back.

I'm sorry. I know I've got a real bad potty mouth. Thank you for putting that so well.
Yeah he'd be a great coach for these guys right now and he's exactly what they need.

Yep. I find it... Well let's just say the main issue with such a young coach with not much background with asst coaches. I would shy away from anymore ex ole miss players or assistants and I have heard of 2 more being mentioned.

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze added a familiar name to his football staff Monday, as former Rebel player and assistant coach Matt Luke returns to Oxford as the offensive line coach. Barney Farrar has also been named Assistant Athletics Director for Community Relations.
“For a coach like Matt Luke to return to Ole Miss – a place where he is so loved and loves so dearly – is a home run for us,” Freeze said. “He is tireless recruiter and is a great representative of our university.”

the emphasis is definitely on recruiting, just hope they can develop who they bring in

The most interesting part of this post is hiring an Assistant AD when we haven't hired an AD yet....or have we? 8)

ReservoirReb wrote:I am a bit ambivalent about this hire. Other than being an Ole Miss guy I am not sure he brings that much to the table. He was part of Cutcliffe's coaching staff that didn't recruit that well once they got Eli. Also it appears to be a bit of a step down in position as he is listed as Offensive Coordinator as well as running game coordinator and offensive line coach at Duke. Of course I would expect the real Offensive Coordinator at Duke is Cut. I am a little surprised he came back. I guess time does heal all wounds. He was quite vocal and anti Ole Miss a few years back. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Boone is on the way out. I don't know.
My only argument here is that this guy had to come up from playing hurt to Cut's coaching staff in an awfully small amount of time when Eli got here. You can't blame him for being bad at recruiting at 23. Give him a year's chance like the rest of the assistants. Freeze getting 3 was asking enough, I know. But, it takes a big man to fight for and often times against the official position of Ole Miss. It takes a bigger man to give peace a chance. 8O
