Bama just did a home and home with Penn State.

LSU played Oregon last year and play Washington this year. I know Washington is no powerhouse, but they are a member of one of the big conferences.

Auburn plays Clemson this year and the last two. The played West Virginia before that.

Georgia recently played Boise and they play Ga. Tech every year. In '09 their ooc schedule consisted of Ok. State, Arizona State, and Ga. Tech.

This is nothing new.

Our schedule will always be among the toughest because we play in the toughest division in the toughest conference in football. So our conference schedule is brutal and always will be unless we want to leave the SEC. But our non conference schedule wouldn't scare any decent team. The games are at home except for Tulane and we should have more fans than Tulane in the dome, Texas is a mediocre team looking for direction but a huge attraction and a huge coup to have them in Oxford. And we are nowhere near Marshall or SMU or other programs who have started from scratch. The only team in the west that doesn't enter this year with major questions or changes on the field or sidelines is Bama. If there has been a year that a good coach could make a little hay and surprise some folks in the last several years this is it. We supposedly have a focused innovative and dynamic new head coach. So barring major or numerous injuries I expect some results.

I posted this on the other thread. Look at Bama last year, they played one tough out of conf game, Penn St.. The other 3, Kent State, North Texas, and Georgia Southern.. Auburn the year before that, one tough OOC game, Clemson. The other 3, Ark State, La Monroe and Chattanooga... Bama the year before that, one tough OOC game, the Chic-fila opening game vs Virginia Tech.. The other 3, Florida International, North Texas, Tennessee-Chatanooga. Florida 2008, one tough OOC game, Miami.. The others, The Citadel, and Hawaii... Notice a trend?? I firmly believe these schedules played a major part in these 4 teams winning National Championships.
I am not saying don't play one challenging out of conf game, but you better sprinkle in a couple of gimmes to get some key guys rest and get some younger guys some PT. I don't think this non conf schedule is brutal as far as the teams we are playing. I think it is brutal because of when we are playing them. We play 8 conf games in a row, that is ridiculous.. I might be playing by the time we get to the Egg bowl.. Give me Jackson St, Valley, or Alcorn every year. Sell out, draws the State's media attention and is an easy win to get some younger guys PT.

Exactly, so we don't need to beat ourselves up with 4 OOC games..

Totally agree. Every fan should stand up tall and be disappointed if we do not at least triple our number of wins this year. Totally achievable among these teams: Central Arkansas, UTEP, Tulane, Texas, Vandy, State, A & M, Auburn and Arkansas. (Yes, Arkansas!) Latest news from Hogville is that Smith will be declaring bankruptcy this fall because of Kentucky real-estate deals that fell through. He will be relying on continuity from his assistants. If he doesn't get it, Arkansas will be in play for everybody in the SEC.

I just want to start winning SEC games. THAT is what we should expect.
THAT is what the standard is.
THAT is what wins championships
THAT is what we haven't done for 2 years.
THAT is what we haven't done on a consistent basis since the 50's (we did it then in spades or so I've heard.)
THAT is what we should be b*tching about.

NOT winning SEC games is why HC and AD are fired.
MAYBE we are serious this time.
Long. Overdue. Maybe.

Bama doesn't have to play Bama, LSU doesn't have to play LSU. We get both of every year.

Our schedule was too easy last year! On Nov 20th teams ranked 1(LSU) 2(Alabama) 3(Arkansas) not only came from the SEC, but the SEC WEST.. We needed to play some better OOC competition to help our strength of schedule a tad..

In my opinion we definitely have the talent to win at least five games. Any less would be another slip back into the pit that we are trying to exit.

Those of you who are pessimistic (and I understand why you are!) should remember that we truly did not have a coaching staff last year. We had players running around the field, out of place, trying to figure things out on their own, some motivated, some not. Unfortunately, the Arkansas fans were right about Nutt from the beginning. He is a con man, the Elmer Gantry/Jimmy Swaggart of football.

Our opponents, for the most part, will expect us to continue the miserable results of the past two seasons--forever the low point in Ole Miss football history. Despite what HC's will tell their players, it will be difficult to convince them that Ole Miss will not be a pushover this year. Freeze gets the most out of what he has, according to past history. He also appears to be a good recruiter. I still say that 6 or 7 wins is doable this year. I will be disappointed if we don't play hard and look like a football team that belongs in the SEC.

And, of course, win some SEC games!

To win 7, you have to get the first four. To win 6 you have to get at least 3 of the first 4. I usually overshoot on wins but I think 5 is spot on and I would not bad mouth Freeze if he won 4. It is tough to ask any team to play 8 conf games in a row, much less a team that has depth issues at multiple positions. 7 wins, national coach of the year..

Because we play the first 4 non conf games in a row, it really hurts our chances of slipping up on somebody.. Teams won't even watch film on us from last year because of the regime change.. We might be able to catch somebody slipping if we played one of our last 4 opponents from last year in one of the first 4 this year. We got outscored a combined 140-26 over the last 4... Thanks for the memories Houston!

Concentrate on winning sec games and the ooc will take care of itself regardless of who it is. Yet I do believe in having 2 or 3 so called easy games to give the backups more playing time.

The 8 conf games in a row is brutal and probably not on purpose(no matter how bad Boone is, I don't think that was on purpose). But I don't get the reaction to the non-conference schedule. We have Tulane, Central Ark., UTEP, and Texas. I don't see a problem with having at least one good team from another major conference on the schedule.

The 8 conf. games in a row probably has something to do with having to add A&M(now that I'm looking at the schedule).
