Ole Miss will make the same amount of money as all of the other SEC schools... the only benefit of a bowl game for those of us in the SEC is extended practices for the year.
I agree with the other things you said, but the "same amount of money" comment is not quite right. When an SEC team plays in a bowl game, the team playing gets 30% of the payout. The other 70% of the payout goes to the SEC office and after administrative fees is divided equally among all the SEC schools. That 30% means that the teams that go to major bowls (Alabama, Ole Miss and Miss State) will definitely get more than the remaining SEC schools.
Wrong... go read your SEC bylaws... the entire bowl revenue the SEC participates in is split 15 ways...minus traveling expenses + a stipend to each bowling school that actually covers unforseen expenses... sort of a petty cash fund...each school gets essentially the same money...don 't take my word for it... go look it up.

I'm not going to argue, but I'm not wrong. The only thing left out in my statement is that there is a maximum and a minimum for that upfront money. Auburn got $1.975 million last year before the SEC took the rest to distribute so they got less than the 30% because they maxed out while teams in minor bowls may have gotten more than the 30% because of the minimum. By being in a NYD6 bowl, we may max out this year.

Is they're any documentation on the Dec. 31, 2014 Peach Bowl payout being ~$20 Million? Everything I've read including Wikipedia says just under $3 Million for the SEC representative.

Let's put to bed the payouts and how the funds are split up:

academy reb wrote:I saw a couple of articles showing "new" payouts. The access bowls are in the $20MM range. The old Chic-fil-a was like $3 MM. The Chic-fil-a Peach bid up their deal to get into this new system. We'll be fine.
I also understand that the SEC puts the net into a "pot" for distribution to all conference teams. Net Proceeds after expense/18=share. Share x 2 for participating team. One each for SEC and other league teams.
I believe academy reb is correct now. I could be wrong, but I think the rules of the split were changed several years ago to give the participating team more money. I know Auburn got more money when they played for the NC.

Any reference to the higher payout for the Peach Bowl? Where is anyone seeing a payout in the $20 Million range?

I have tried to research bowl payouts and the SEC split and I can't find anything current...the link that Justblues posted is a reference to the "Fix" to equalize all of the bowls this year. This year the bowls had to anti up to gain equal status and the link he has posted is is all that there is out there... it is not the correct and final total and I think that the SEC has not even found a way to split the proceeds...I am going to bet in the near future that the SEC meets to change the way the SEC splits money again with some of the bowl payout SEC share going to "Grease" the ESPN wheels to "Scratch" the money itch on their side. However you can rest assured that the "share Equalization" will continue and status quo will be refined and back to normal...The SEC knows that this philosophy is what has brought us to the pinnacle of football and it isn't going to jeopardize that equality. The bottom line is the SEC is the big dog in town and will continue to be...everyone in the SEC will be taken care of equally. Justblues knows this as well I am sure...all of this talk about going to a better bowl and making more money is just rhetoric/on paper ...the BCS/playoff system is just getting started. Enjoy the ride and just be glad we are in the SEC who has all of our best interests at heart...let em drag ESPN all the way to the bank for a big fat deposit on our behalf.

You hit the nail on the head. Totally agree with wht you said. It is a new day and the SEC brand is strong. The money earned will be distributed to all teams and it is on top of the TV deal. If you are in the SEC, you are in the cat-bird seat of sports. I'll bet Texas wishes they had joined when they had the opportunity. Now they are vanishing quickly.
