Nah....

We really wanted to buy in the city b/c bringing NOLA back happens one family at a time and we wanted to be a part of that. But we just couldn't afford to live in the nicer/safer parts of town. We didn't want to go to old metry or the west bank, so upper garden district or midcity were really the only choices. Garden is WAAAAY out of our current range, and midcity isn't exactly "safe" these days (kinda like lower garden and irish channel), so we bought in Mandeville. My parents live over here as well as my cousins and other friends, so it's nice.

We really love the new house though, and hopefully we'll have the first addition to the family on the way soon.

Well congrats on the house and soon to be family. We left Old Metairie last labor day and I'm glad we did. I just couldn't take it any more after having our 2nd child. Both my wife and I were born and raised in Nawlins but I got tired of the "maybe it will get better next year attitude." Life is too short. Again, congrats and I hope you are not making a daily commute across the causeway. That would stink. . .

Thank you sir. Grats on your 2nd!! Yeah, it's a shame. I was born and raised as well, wife's from BR. And I remember playing outside all weekend with my friends from basically sun up to down, riding bikes all over the garden dist, from claiborne down to tchoup and not feeling the least bit worried. Don't get me wrong, we stayed away from the truly nasty areas, but other than that, we didn't worry much. Course, those were ALSO the days when a family of 4 could afford a 3-2 house down there. Now, unless you're willing to live in a transitional neighborhood you need at least 350K to get started. Ahh well, those were the days huh?

Funny thing is my wife IS making the drive. She got a SWEET city job with Kenner about a month ago. Today is her first day. But she's the one who really wanted the northshore, even though she'd have to drive the bridge everyday. But city jobs are full of benefits. 35hrs/wk, full paid benefits, flex time, ZERO travel and I'm pretty sure she'd have to commit murder, rape, felony theft, arson AND sell a truckload of crank all in one day to get fired. Even with the drive, she's gonna get home at the same time I do, and I work in Covington.

Congrats on the new house. Now that poor USCreb has actually insulted us both in the same sentence, I have to look upon you as some sort of blood brother. Congrats again. oops! here it is:

Be glad for your short commute and I feel for your wife having to make that trek every day. I have seen a lot of people become very bitter after making that drive for a year or so.

Also, why is the mayor of Covington in trouble. I keep hearing that he pulled a no-no but haven't heard why?

I guess technically she is, but very far removed. She's part of a 3 person department that was just started to handle all of the HR for the city of Kenner so that department supervisors don't have to do it anymore. Hopefully Muniz will leave them to do their jobs. I did warn her about the drive making her crazy, but she's a strong minded LSU fan, and you KNOW you can't tell them anything.

All I've heard is that the mayor of Mandeville got in trouble lately. Mayor of Covington is a chic, and clean as of late. The mayor of Mandeville got hammered a few nights ago, drove through a closed toll lane onto the bridge. The big steel gate was closed. You know the ones that are painted fire engine red, have the flashing strobe lights in red and white and have a red and white retroreflective sign that's about 2'x4' saying "THIS TOLL LANE CLOSED" across the front? Yea, well he drove smooth through it, bridge cops pulled him over on the first crossover, didn't make him take a FST, and didn't make him blow. They simply towed his car, wrote him a ticket for careless operation (much different from wreckless op from what I hear) and let him call a friend to pick him up.

His story is that he was on the way across the bridge to see his "sister" who lives in NOLA (yea, at 1:00am????) and he got distracted by his cell phone which fell on the floor of the vehicle and didn't even notice a bump when his city provided Expedition busted through the gate and continued onto the bridge.

Nice huh?
