David Brandt's blog from the CL. Sad that we are in this situation, but we created it ourselves.

Well, we've had opportunities. Right now, OM should be in a position that it wouldn't matter if we were swept by UK, we would still make the tourney. OM was picked to win the West at the beginning of the season and now we are battling to even be in the top 8.

But, whether we make it to the SEC tourney or not, as long as we get a bid to the big dance, that's all that matters! From there, we can do like State did last year and hopefully get hot at the right time.

I'm being optimistic!!!

Given the state of the Western division this year, if we don't make Hoover I seriously doubt we'll get an invite to the big dance. Could happen, but the division is down this year and everyone in the know in college baseball knows it.

BUT on the flip side, the pseudo-RPIs have us at 43rd this morning. That's good enough for a 2 or 3 seed on the road at a Regional...somewhere. That doesn't count the automatic bids that are some upstarts outside the top 64 that decide to get lucky and win their conference tourney and capture an automatic bid to knock someone out.

Point is, we're not safe by a long shot. Even if we make the SEC Tourney. Remember that last year of the 8 that went to the SEC Tourney, only 5 went to the NCAAs. Then there have been other years where 8 go to the SEC Tourney, but 9 go to the NCAAs. Then the year before last, 8 went to the SEC Tourney, but only 7 of those went the the NCAA, but LSU also went to the NCAAs even though they weren't in Hoover.

Sometimes the selection is messed up, but overall it's pretty stable. We need to make Hoover first off to assure ourselves a HOPE of the Regionals. Get to Hoover, win a couple there, then leave it in the hands of the selection committee.
