From what I’m hearing on Ole Miss defensive line coach Tracy Rocker, his possible departure to Auburn is likely but was not a done deal yesterday and appears to be still fluid.

This may play itself out today.

A text message to Houston Nutt earlier this morning has not yet been returned. That could mean a couple of things. A.) Maybe Nutt was still asleep, though not likely. B.) The situation is unresolved. C.) The situation is resolved, and one of the schools is working on an announcement.

As a part of his restructured contract in early December Nutt was given more control in working with salaries for assistant coaches.

If this is truly a chance for Rocker to better himself financially, and I would think it’s more about that than simply his love of his alma mater, then Nutt may have enough to work with Rocker to stay.

If not, I suspect he has enough to hire a quality coach. It would be disappointing for Ole Miss to lose its defensive line coach after what may have been its best defensive line in school history, but transition is a part of the game.

*********

Hope he stays, but if he goes, who do we want to replace him?

Looks like Rocker is gone.

I hate Auburn more and more each year.
Nutt calls the formation the Wild Rebel. Which sure beats the heck out of Orgeron's Wild Boys.

Rocker is gone. Could he be replaced by Steve Caldwell, UT defensive ends coach? See link: http://myespn.go.com/blogs/sec

You hate Auburn for asking one of it's own alums to come back and coach there? Geez. If Deuce McAllister became a good RB coach and was at Auburn, wouldn't you think it would be natural for him to want to coach at his alma mater if they came calling? Why would I get mad at Ole Miss for pursuing him?

I hope we replace him with another African American. I really like Jimmy Brumbaugh's resume.

Auburn always looks to Ole Miss for its coaches guys face it. They know a real winner when they see one. I dont care what everyone says Gene Chizik still wont be there long...2-15 in the big 12 is evidence enough for me.

Don Dunn is available, and Auburn alway had a good defensive line. He can cook the hell out of some BBQ too! The man knew how to cook a steak.

BT him and Hugh Nawl they were my favorite Tubberville coaches and they got after it too.

Auburn every year could run the football due to their OL and could stop the run due to the DL. It was just they never really had a QB they really liked same goes with Bama.

No. It's not just Rocker. It's due to lately when AU needs a coach, they look toward Oxford. Tuberville was first, inquired about Nutt this year and now Rocker.

Lastly, when did Deuce start coaching at Auburn?

I am also hearing Mike Dubose's name being tossed into the hat as our next DL coach. Interesting.

Tuberville was really the only one. The Nutt thing was mostly the doing of Jimmy Sexton. You guys will love dealing with a coach that has him for an agent. Get used to hearing Nutt come up with any decent job opening every year as leverage for a contract extension or increase. It's Sexton's main MO.

And the Deuce thing was just to give an hypothetical. If one of your alums were a position coach at Auburn and doing a good job, wouldn't you think it normal and logical for his alma mater to pursue him and him be interested?
