I'd like to know why...

Texas Tech finished ahead of us in both polls? I just noticed that and I think it's retarded.

2 losses v. 4 losses. We had too many spots and teams between us to make up the divide.lewindha wrote:Texas Tech finished ahead of us in both polls? I just noticed that and I think it's retarded.
You've just got to learn from the wrong things you've done. I came off the rebound, started looking around, figured out it's time to have a little fun.

Rankings are based on the SEASON, not just bowls. They were ranked in the top 10 almost all season, we just broke in at the end. There is no way that we SHOULD be ranked higher than TT.mtnrebel wrote:Maybe so. But that means that the "rankings" don't represent who is the better team head-to-head---but just comparing overall record...
so much for their validity imo

When you just beat a team and are said to not be as high as them in the polls....their is some obvious error in the polls. You may be right, but then with the polls not recognizing the difference in talent between the SEC and BIG 12 (read "defense") then the "polls" are not worth ______(fill in blank)

That's dumb. Your the same person claiming an OM NC because we beat UF? Any team we upset in the top 25, we should immediately jump ahead of them in the rankings? If State had pulled a win out of their *beep* in Tuscaloosa at the end of the season, should they have been #1 in the polls the following week?!?!?!mtnrebel wrote:When you just beat a team and are said to not be as high as them in the polls....their is some obvious error in the polls. Dumb. It's a body of work system. TT's body of work week in and week out was better than ours. Their schedule was not even close to as strong as ours. But that's a different argument. The rankings are generally a solid indication of the strength of teams. We ended up 14 in the nation from being completely out of the top 25 with 1 game left. We are where we are supposed to be.

I think that you exaggerated the original statement. You can't leave out the SOS argument when the SEC blew out the Flag Football League in the bowls. I think he has a point. Our overall schedule, as well as final score between each other, proves that we are better than Tech. That it wasn't a fluke. That we belong one step ahead of them at least.oxpatchreb wrote:That's dumb. Your the same person claiming an OM NC because we beat UF? I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance.

No, I might have over simplified, but the point is still that it's a season long process to earn your ranking. If we had taken care of either SC, Wake, or Vandy early in the season, there's no question we'd have ended up 3 or 4 spots higher because we'd have broken into the top 25 one game earlier. However, while we were struggling to find our groove early in the season, TT was destroying anyone they played. If we'd have been playing in the Big 12 South, we'd still have lost a couple games early while we figured out our style. I agree that we are the better football team at the end of the season and would win 3 of 4 if we played them now. However, due to our stumbles in the early going to teams who themselves faltered later in the season, our resume is not one of a top 10 team, even though we ARE playing like one at the end of the season. That doesn't mean the rankings are bad, it means it took us a little while to get cranked up. I have no problem with that.dgmcdowe wrote:

I had hoped that we would be ahead of TTU in the final polls, but, secretly, I knew we would not.
TTU deserves to be ahead of us (see the Crabtree play against Texas). I hate it, but, the body of work TTU showed this season Trumps what we did. If McCluster does not fumble against Vandy, we do not give away a Skinner long pass play, and linked unto that, never give Bama the spot we did in the first half.
If we rectify any of those,we are in the terrible BCS. We didn't. At 14 we did well, period.

If your Aunt had . . ., well, you know that saying. And if, in the preseason, we had been told that we would be ranked #14 in the final poll, we would have all been running around like a kid with a new bike.OMNOB wrote:I had hoped that we would be ahead of TTU in the final polls, but, secretly, I knew we would not.
