OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Eniel Polynice slammed a breakaway dunk with two seconds remaining to lift Ole Miss to an 81-79 win over Southern Miss Saturday.
The decisive dunk, off a long defensive rebound and assist from Chris Warren, capped a rally that erased Southern Mississippi's 77-71 lead in the final minute. Warren led the Rebels (7-1) with 20 points and six assists while Polynice added 15 points and six dimes.
"At the end, it came down to a loose ball and we got the biggest one," Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy said. "It was a great rebound and pass by Warren and a great finish by Polynice. That's a hard play to make."
Warren hit a three-point shot with 40 seconds left for a 79-79 tie, allowing Southern Mississippi to hold for a final shot. R.L. Horton missed a short jumper and a pair of tip-in attempts bounced away. Warren ran down the long rebound and found a streaking Polynice for the winning slam.
Southern Mississippi (5-1) was led by Gary Flowers by 20 points and eight rebounds. The Golden Eagles shot 32-of-60, 53 percent, from the field, but misfired three times in the final 10 seconds before the decisive play. Southern Miss turned the ball over again with 1.1 seconds left on an inbounds pass.
"It was a heck of a game and it's had everything in it you could want," Southern Miss coach Larry Eustachy said. "We miss a short shot, a couple of tips and it's too bad. It's a bang bang play at the end. Too bad."
Angelo Johnson scored 16 points while Maurice Bolden and R.L. Horton had 10 apiece for the Golden Eagles, who led 36-32 at halftime.
Terrico White and Zach Graham scored 15 points apiece while Murphy Holloway added 10 for the Rebels, who placed five players in double figures. The Rebels were 30-of-65 from the field, 47 percent, including 12-of-27 from three-point range.

Most exciting end to a game I have personally witnessed by far. But we did not rebound well, except near the end, and had no answer for their quick guards.
