Central Arkie? Isn't that a DII school?
Maybe this is the girl's volleyball schedule?

Why in the world are we playing UAB in Birmingham? Have any of you been to Legion Field lately? Two years ago when this was announced I wrote John Hartwell and told him the was a great mistake playing a Conf. USA team on the road. I went to a UAB game last year vs. SMU and there was a grand total of 13 to 15 thousand at the game and this was their first or second home game. I also have pictures to prove it. It was the date we were open. You think the neighborhood around the Liberty Bowl is terrible, wait till you get to Legion field.

I've been to Legion Field many times over the years for various events. It has always been in an awful neighborhood. The projects go right up to the parking lot.cdaughtry wrote:Why in the world are we playing UAB in Birmingham? Have any of you been to Legion Field lately? Why would we lower ourselves to go to UAB? I guess next, we will sign a home and home with Central Arkansas or South Alabama. We don't need this game in Birmingham, we need to give them $400,000 and bring them to Oxford. That is more than they will make by us going to Birmingham. The people over here in Alabama are just laughing at us for signing this home and home.
Here are the pics I took with my cell phone at the UAB-SMU game last year. They actually had a couple of hundred extra fans that don't normally come to a UAB game cause of a high school all star band. This was the reason I was there with my daughter. The announced crowd was 18000 something. Some people I know said it was more like 12000. We need to play them to fill our schedule, but only as a home game. We will get more national ridicule and be the butt of SEC jokes for going there than we did in going to Arkansas State in 2001. We need to start thinking like a big fish instead of little fish!!!!

I live about an hr. away from bham and legion field is where we play our HS state championships the neighborhood is horrible and the field sucks better hope it doesnt rain!!!!
I agree with what you're saying, but another season like this and UAB will be saying the same thing about us. We could be that cupcake team that Big 10 schools pay $400,000 to play.colreb74 wrote:Why do we even SCHEDULE UAB? I refuse to believe we can't fill 4 non conference games with REAL teams. Or at least teams the fans care to watch!
