2 things to salvage the season

Key things to pay attention to that could put us at a 7 to 9 win season:
1. Stoudt has a rocket for an arm. One discipline mistake made all game is what cost us the game.
2. Nix has really improved the defense. They played 40 minutes almost and aren't why we lost (except the one horse collar)
On top of that the special teams is getting better.
Offensive line needs work, they got away with a lot of holds in my opinion. Nutt has no clock management skills.
I think Stoudt is our man. Anyone else agree? Or do we all think we're really an 0-1 team that will be lucky to win 4 again?
I will say this--if we don't win 6, I want Nutt out. I'm not the most popular for this, but to give us two almost great seasons then disappoint us Orgeron style simply won't fly.
Edit - At least it was a bunch of racist mormons and not Jacksonville State. We'll make up for it in conference play. Just like JVSU we were definitely not outmatched. Unlike JVSU, this won't end our season.

Stoudt looks to have real potential.

There was one camera shot of Lee where he threw his arms up in disgust. I have a feeling that's where Nutt overruled him. If Boone could put a lasso on him and let Lee do his job we could be something. But it is Pete Boone..

Well, we lost by one pt and played terrible. NO offensive td's AND we lost all three of our starting RB's at one time or another. That makes play calling very hard and you can't establish a tempo if personnel keeps changing. I truly believe the game would have been different had Bolden been playing in the 4th quarter. Stinks for us. Now we regroup, hopefully heal up this week and figure out what to do for next week. 11 more games lay ahead of us and no good will come on dwelling over this stupid loss. At least we now know what Stoudt can do.

I agree completely. Stoudt almost had that one TD pass. It was definitely not his fault it was dropped, and the ref did fail to call interference. Here's to a legitimate shot at at least 7 out of 11 as the receiving corps matures.
If not, I still want Nutt out. I think Nix would be better suited based on how well he's turned the D around but I lack any knowledge of his offensive/recruiting mindset.

running the ball 3 times in a row for no gain on 4 straight drives with backup backs. no first quarter passing. no offense. its a shame that we didn't throw it more. i say if you want to salvage the season fire nutt. the play calling in this game was stupid. we were supposed to keep their o off the field. you can't do that when going 3 and out over and over.

I almost want to fire Nutt too but I don't think the brunt of the fanbase is behind it yet? By no means do I think the Arky trolls were right even if we fire him. I just, unless he proves me wrong by winning more games and proving this game and last year a rebuilding mulligan, think he was never really a fit for the program and was blessed with 2 years of good players that fit his playbook. Then again, under Boone, who is? Maybe if we got rid of Boone we'd fix our problems with Nutt.

I think our running backs corps is great, the line just needs to open holes for it. Outside runs don't work as well in the SEC, and the screens were too readable.
Not to forget BYU was CLEARLY playing to hurt our RB's

Not sure what Mackey can do in a game since we did not get to see him but....Brunetti may look better in practice but Stoudt sure handled the game better and was not scared to throw it down the field! I think Stoudt should get more reps with the receivers and get into a rhythm with them. The receivers need to improve on catching and route running as well. As for the defense, it looked improved. They were on the field longer than they should have been and were not awful. I think the problems that were exposed in this game are fixable....now we will see if Nutt can actually get them corrected. The line could use some work but Stoudt had time to find his man more times than not...

The defense only allowed one score in what felt like 40 minutes on the field, correct? That's a top 25 defense. You are exactly right about Stoudt needing some improvement and particularly more time to get to know his receivers (who need to be learning their routes and how to get open) because he can air that ball out accurately, and maybe Mackey's good but I still feel this kid is our guy and very SEC caliber.
If Nutt fixes these problems and either works on or brings in a specialist for clock management, I'll be fine with him and we'll win a lot of games. If not, it's going to be another long season.

Think we watched 2 SO-SO teams and someone had to lose....Agree that Stoudt proved he can
get the job done...Would like to see them allow him a shot next week...Think we see Mackey
under center.....Will not be suprised....That pass isn't dropped in the end zone we are now drinking
in joy instead of crying in the beer....GO REBELS beat SIU.....
