Not sure if anyone has seen it yet. I liked some of the things he said. Certainly when he said we need to throw more. It looks like that is going to have to happen sometime this year. I don't know if he will for sure start next game. Nutt may keep the carousel moving along this year. Will just have to see.

I'm for whomever gives us the best chance to win. Two years ago it was Snead. Last year it was Masoli. Two very different styles of QB. This year it may be back to that classic pocket-passer type in Stoudt. Our only problem is Nutt & Co. will probably keep rotating QBs around and we'll never find that continuity. We certainly have the talent. Youth and questionable coaching lost us the game yesterday. So we'll see. I'm not on the "FIRE NUTTZ" bandwagon just yet. I'll reserve judgement for the Vandy and Georgia games.
ETA: Just watched the video. I really hope we stick with Stoudt. He seems to have a quiet confidence about him, even though he completely owned up to the fumble there in the fourth. I think he could be a great leader for us if we'd just stick with him.

To me, Stout just LOOKED like our QB. That kid is a leader and he commanded the team. He threw with confidence, he felt pressure and he made smart plays. His one mistake was costly, but I bet he learned from it. I want him to be the guy. Mackey can run the wild Rebel.

We could be in for a long year. The whole week the only feel for the game I had was that if it was a close game I wouldn't know any more about the team than I did then. We lost some good players we needed and that won't help anything. Funny how things can work out in a game. We had a phantom holding call in the 4th quarter and that is when it shifted for byu. Every single play from then on was a victory for them. It wasn't that they hadn't moved the ball but that is when our team had a helpless look about them. Really appeared to be a hangover from last year's losing season.

I witnessed the helpless look last year in tiger stadium. in the 4th quarter it started with the head coach and trickled on out to the team.bbqit wrote:our team had a helpless look about them. Really appeared to be a hangover from last year's losing season.

Could see it in Nutts face on the sideline. D played well enuff to win it and the O was stumbling along lost in the dark, but I saw some potential. DB's look much improved from last yr;
ZD made some nice decisions in throwing the ball away a couple of times, esp that mishandled snap and threw an almost perfect bomb that NB should had caught. The timing of the snap I think is a direct result of the qb merrygoround. Barry's stint at qb looked very uncomfortable and he had no help from his OC.
We played a lot of frosh and some growing up - NB for 1 - was done. DM looked good. Scott had a few good runs, and think its time for DThomas to get in the game. Losing Bolten is devastating though.
Oline - should NOT have read their hype
OM penalties - none until the very end of the game - worst time of course - which surprised me with such a young team. End of game chaos I blame on Nutt/Lee. We should have a 1,2 and 3 QB this week no carrousel, but if we don't then I'll jump on that bandwagon.

Stout did some good things, but I'm not ready to annoint him the guy for the rest of the season. He started off great (including what should have been a long TD, his early numbers were off the charts), but he tailed off later. And his one mistake was a pretty darn big one.
He's earned a long look, but I want to see what Mackey can do, too. As for Brunetti, if you're running draws on 3rd and 10 because you don't trust your QB to throw a pass, he shouldn't be your QB. You can maybe work him in with some wildcat type stuff but that's it for now.

I'd like to see what Mackey can do also. According to our coaches and other players he is the most accurate passer, while Zack runs the speed ball offense the best and Barry runs the best.umrebel96 wrote:Stout did some good things, but I'm not ready to annoint him the guy for the rest of the season. However I dont think our Oline can improve and they need to badly, with 3 different QB's sharing the snaps. So name 1, say its yours to lose, give him him the snaps and then pull him and put in #2 if he's not performing. The thing I liked the most about ZS was the way the team responded to him when he came in. Might not happen next week, idk.
Yes that 1 mistake was the game, but I give some of the credit to the oline for that.

I'd have to say that I'm extremely impressed by the Ole Miss fans. I'm a BYU fan, and I was interested to see what the fans were saying. I'm used to being bashed on by the opposing teams fans, but I've been extremely happy about not seeing that here. I only saw one derogatory comment made about mormons in general, and I can't tell you how much we have appreciated that. It isn't often that I become a fan of a team after we play them. The only other team that has done that in recent memory is Oklahoma. I hope you work out the kinks and we don't have to play you again. You're a lot scarier of a team than we had originally thought.
In regards to your team, I was impressed by a lot of things that they were able to do. First, your secondary was impressive against our receivers. I didn't think that there was any way that you would hold Heaps to less than 3 TD passes. Heaps himself commented on how good the secondary was covering our receivers. BYU had to drastically change their game plan because of it. The only long completion he had was into very good coverage and could have easily been intercepted instead of caught. The offense struggled a bit, but that comes with not having a clear decision on the quarterback. I think the sooner they name Stoudt the quarterback, the sooner Ole Miss will start winning games.
I realize that no one wants to hear from the opposing team's fans, but I wanted to throw in my two cents and thank you. We were impressed by your team, and I think you will be too after a few more games.

It wasn't that we lost to byu that hurts. Byu is a good team. We are watching the little things that can make a difference. We saw things we didn't like last year and we don't want to see them again. We like our team and we want them to be successful, not as much for us but for them. There is nothing like seeing smiles from those kids when they have worked so hard. That is one reason I watch their expressions during a game. Win or lose a game they are too good to have that lost look about them. They are our kids and we worry about them. Yes, as a fan, we want to win but most of all we want those kids to know they can win.

I'm watching the game on the dvr now, and I really like what Stoudt did for most of the game. Based on quotes from Spirit Ben and Parrish the team is rallying around him, too. Really hope we stick with him. That pass that Brassell dropped was real purdy!
ETA: the 4th quarter playcalling is truly mind-boggling. Stoudt doesn't look to have a slow release to me. Not necessarily fast either--"normal"

I was VERY impressed with Stoudt. This guy needs to be your starter and you need to get off the Brunetti bandwagon immediately. Stoudt has the pedigree, the poise, the confidence, and the arm to guide Ole Miss to a great season and bowl. It's a good thing he did not play the whole game. 14 points would have been far too few for BYU to win.
As a BYU fan, I was also impressed with Sawyer, this guy can flat-out play the game of football. What a gamer! Your punter is unbelievable. He will be a good weapon for you, pinning teams deep in their own territory where your very athletic and talented D can go to work. I was very impressed with your D. I don't share your opinion that the OL was overhyped. They are definitely good, but BYU's front 7 is simply amazing - the best BYU has ever had. If you get your WRs and QB on the same page, you could certainly make some noise this year.
Best of luck the rest of the way.
