When is the last time Ole Miss graduated one with a physical education degree to become a high school football coach?

According to the department of education, Ole Miss has not offered a physical education degree in 15 years! So maybe the better question is why will academia not support athletics so athletics can supplement academia. When will Ole Miss get serious about winning?

Outside of one’s parents, who is generally the most influential person in an athletics’ life? If you answered one’s coach, you would be right!!

Please excuse me. I thought this board was for those desiring to share serious dialogue about Ole Miss & not for those trying to be comedians. The posts I have shared express a deficient issue for one serious about reestablishing a competitive athletic program at Ole Miss.

Welcome to the board. We are rarely too serious and try to always look at the issues from the lighter side of things. It helps keep our sanity. Lighten up Francis.

You're excused, no problem! There's this cute thingy at the top of the screen with the word "search" on it. Plug in "phys Ed" and that should rrrrrreturrrrrrn (international talk like a pirrrrate day, sorry!) some useful threads. Also, the need for a phys Ed major was included in a letter to Dr. Jones, and I am sure Bjork is aware of the situ too.

I try to avoid being a comedian an stick with what I know, i.e. being a smarrrrghtass!!!

"Stay in Mississippi, Play in Mississippi bring a NC home to Mississippi!!!"
How juvenile the responses . Do you children just think the country is going to hand a NC to Ole Miss? Y'all probably believe like BO that "someone else will build Ole Miss's program".
Athletes pay a heck of a big price. They deserve the total, complete support of the institution. It is often the small things that pay big dividends. Can you give me one reason why a program to graduate future coaches would be harmful to Ole Miss athletics? Are you serious about Ole Miss winning or do you just want to talk about the line on the game? I want the athletes representing Ole Miss to know that the University is giving its all for a winning program & we expect them to do the same.

Whoa, take it down a notch.

Yeah, athletes pay a big price. But they also(most of them) get a free education. And I agree that that education could and should be in PE if they want. It's not going to get them anywhere, but a high school gym, unless they have college or pro coaching aspirations. Or maybe they want to coach and make a difference to high school kids.

I agree, I think it's hurting our ability to recruit SOME athletes. It's why Freeze, who loves Ole Miss, went to Southern Miss. instead. He wanted to coach and Ole Miss didn't provide that avenue to him. Now players have an 'in' if they are interested in coaching, of course, but I still think providing a PE degree would help the athletic programs.

I've been saying for a while that I wished we had some former players who had become good/great coaches, that we could bring in. Mainly, I wanted someone who could coach and love Ole Miss. I think we have that in Freeze, but it would be nice to create a coaching pipeline.

I can not speak for other sports, but there is nothing "free" for those that play football. I assure you, those who play football earn everything they get.
Thanks for your support on the PE issue. Our coaches need your support on this issue to the adminstration. This message needs to get out to all of the Ole Miss family.

Before I give you a serious reply, do this.

Take the top 5 recruiting classes for the last 5 years (scout and rivals). Find the coach of each signee. Google the coach and see if he:

A) went to the college the athlete signed with
B) majored in PE

Shouldn't take but a few days, and you could convince me to get real serious if the numbers support your theory.
