I was furious with Freezes decision not to punt, much less his play call.
But it took some great, gutsy calls to get us to the point where that call mattered. Calls and coaching that we went without for two years. I'm in.
I'm just going to say this and move on.

I've been in for right around 45 years and am still in...I too was furious with the call...a basic call IMO that wiped out the time and situation appropriate calls made earlier in the game. And if he makes that call again in the same situation, which he has indicated he would, I will be furious again. But I believe he might can make us a winning program and he has my support. But because this is an opinion board if he makes that stupid call again I will be vocally indignant.
I think Auburn is in free fall and we should beat them. I think that in the Vandy game the best coached and best prepared team will win. Barring a major injury (Wallace, Moncrief or Scott) I would say that team will be the Rebels. The question is can we steal another one to make up for the one we gave away Saturday night and get to 6. We will see.
But I am in. With a level of passion that will result in strong opinions. As it should.

To be honest, this game kept us out of the top 25. Not this week, but after we beat auburn. Could have been 5-2 with an open date and then Ark. A 6-2, 22nd ranked OM would give GA a lot to think about.

Yep ...that's why I was saying how important that win would have been and how crushing it was to just give it away.rebelliousb wrote:To be honest, this game kept us out of the top 25. I don't know if I'd go that far, but I can't totally disagree with it, either. All in all, there was a lot at stake in this game. Forgive some of us for being so upset. It's not that we couldn't compete with them and it's not that we 'played them tough' but couldn't pull it out in the end. We beat them.rebelliousb wrote:To be honest, this game kept us out of the top 25. Not this week, but after we beat auburn. Could have been 5-2 with an open date and then Ark. There are plenty of things to look at. Yes, I am still furious at that play call. Yes, Bo eyed his receiver the whole way and made a bad pass/decision. Hell, what about when we had them pinned in inside the 1 with 3 and 20-something. The dang db was there, he just didn't make the play. He knocks that ball down and we probably aren't talking about that play call.
And I don't think that was a safety. Ball was out of the endzone and unfortunately for us the rule for safeties is the same rule for td's.

6-2 with Vandy and State and LSU struggling on offense. d***!Rebchuck18 wrote:Yep ...that's why I was saying how important that win would have been and how crushing it was to just give it away.rebelliousb wrote:To be honest, this game kept us out of the top 25. I thought the challenge was as bad as 4th and 1. We had them pinned back, desperate, out of breath, out of energy and no time to regroup...until we called time out. Worst case, they call TZo and we have one on our last drive (or theirs).

I've been watching the games of all the teams we have left on the schedule: Auburn, Arkansas, Georgia, Vandy, LSU and State. There is not a one of them that is not in play on the W-L board. Yes, we should be 4-2 after the game we played against A & M, but that has nothing to do with what's ahead of us. I'm saying that CHF and Staff will point out to the players that they can still have a great, turnaround season, and it all starts with Auburn on Saturday. Although many people thought so pre-season, there is not a team among the last six that is head and shoulders above us at this point. Some, like Georgia, are playing great offense but only in spurts against lesser competition. Some, like LSU, are turning in good defensive performances but mainly against lesser competition. One of them--State--hasn't even been tested yet, and may not be until their game with 'Bama. Arkansas and others have spanked one of the worst Auburn teams in years. I just don't think we should be intimidated by any of them, and I don't think we will be. I remain very optimistic that there are at least three victories waiting for us among that bunch.

Agree with you 100%. Let us not dwell on it and whine and complain. That's what losers do.rebelliousb wrote:I was furious with Freezes decision not to punt, much less his play call.

I would agree and note that pointing it out on the weekend it happened is not "dwelling" on it. And just advanced notice...if he pulls that stuff again in a similar situation I will be *beep* off again and I will comment on it, but as I have stated I think we absolutely SHOULD beat Auburn and Vandy and have a shot against State. I think Georgia and LSU are a stretch ( I actually think Florida is a very good football team that beat LSU)...but Miles will certainly at least keep us in the game as he usually does and Freeze might could steal one from him and maybe Richt as well because Richt is going to be feeling some heat.wildthang80 wrote:Agree with you 100%. Keep in mind with State that they at least have the ability to throw down field now so their offense will bring more to the table than the last couple of years.
So far, I'd say that State's offense brings less to the table than it did the last couple of years. It may be different, but it certainly isn't more. Now, that's so far and a lot could change by late November. Their passing has been average-- 55% completion rate-- which might be better than the last couple of years, but their running game is much less than what it has been. And much of that has been against some pretty poor defenses.Rebchuck18 wrote: Keep in mind with State that they at least have the ability to throw down field now so their offense will bring more to the table than the last couple of years.
Yes, we should beat Auburn. However, that loss, that loss was devastating. It was deflating. It became a winner take all game. aTm will surge foward with this season with that momentum. Ole Miss, I'm afraid, may fall down and not get up. We left everything on that field and I just don't know if we can come out again and play that hard. I'm thinking we will struggle with Auburn. Its our season. We win, a bowl is still a slight, very slight possibility. We lose it, we don't win another game this season. And actually, I can see us losing out from here on. Thats what a loss like that does to you.
Maybe its just because we are a small time program, but you have to work your tail off to lose a game like that at home, at night, in front of that electirc crowd. You really have to choke in many ways, and we followed that script we've been following for my entire life. I watched Tubbs teams do it. I watched Cut's teams do it. I watched O's teams do it. I watched Nutt's teams do it. Now I've seen Freeze's team do it. Its not the coach or the players, its this program. Its a has been and never will be again program. At least thats how it feels to me. Even two days after the loss. I'm beaten. I have no hope. Its the same old thing over and over and over again. Even before that failed 4th down conversion, I told my wife, we lose this game, we lose it for no other reason than we are Ole Miss. And we did. I knew it would happen because I've been watching this same game from Saturday night my whole life. I'm so sick of it.

That is why I said has the "ability" to throw down field. What I mean is their QB actually has the arm to do it and defending it will be different than before.JustBlues wrote:So far, I'd say that State's offense brings less to the table than it did the last couple of years. As devastating as it was....it was not "inevitable"...and keep in mind Cut won 10 games in '03.....Nutt won 9 two years in a row not too long ago. Of course we can compete and win in the SEC. But we won't do it makiing brain fart decisions like the one made Saturday night. That was not a "We are Ole Miss" issue or some fateful pre-ordained outcome..that was a very bad coaching decision. Hopefully one he learned from and will not repeat.Chucky_38 wrote:Yes, we should beat Auburn. However, that loss, that loss was devastating. It was deflating. And yes the loss was as devastating as any in a long long time (9 years to be exact), but it does not mean we are done. And we didn't have to work our tail off to lose it...all we had to do was go for it on fourth down in our own territory with a lead. And Freeze's team didn't do this...Freeze's team played their butts off on both sides of the ball and had the game in hand. A momentary lapse in judgment on the sidelines caused the defeat. These kids can win...this staff can win...if it gets out of its own way. But you are right about losing this weekend. That can not happen.
