Just Curious

Aggie fan here trying to learn some of the SEC traditions of other teams.
Can someone explain to me where the "Fins up" thing came in to play for you guys?

We had a defensive player 5/6 years ago that was having a very successful and spirited practice. When the coaches asked him about it, he told them he was a land shark. It was funny, but it kinda caught on with some of the other players. So they started using the 'fin' on a good defensive play. That player passed away a few years ago, and to me that's when it became more of a tradition/sign of respect.

If that were the criteria for a valuable or accepted tradition, there would be a disturbing lack of them on campus.
