A&M's defense looks a lot like ours, and MSUx is running at will. I see us struggling to stop the run like we did today versus Arky. If they can actually convert drives we may have trouble in Starkville.
I was thinking the same thing....
And my heart goes out to Dak Prescott. Maybe the whole team was playing for him and they were just clicking, but um yeah. Troy should be relatively easy, but Mizzou and State will be tough contests.

Even a bad day as a Rebel is better than a good day with the dawgs!!!!

No excuse for losing to that team. Dak is not Manziel.rebeljim wrote:A running QB like Dak gives us troubles. We cannot lose that game. Be too hard putting up with my dog family.
Don't like the match up or the way the game may be setting up either.......as of now more worried about this game than I am Mizzou......
Not saying we won't win, but it will be a dog fight, no pun intended.....

New to the board. Enjoying it so far.
I think our best case scenario is that they lose to Arky to put them out of contention. They don't really scare me as they have been very inconsistent, but the short week paired with an emotional game against Mizzou and the possibility of them fighting for bowl eligibility doesn't set up well for us.

We are a better team. The only thing that scares me a little is Mullens absolute focus on us as an enemy if his job depends on it. But I think our staff is good enough to deal with that.

State will be far more affected by the short week than we will. They will be playing the sixth of six straight, including the gauntlet of South Carolina, A & M, Alabama, Arkansas and us. On the other hand, we will be playing the fourth of four straight. I agree that a loss to Arkansas (which will almost certainly be their only chance for a win in the SEC) will wrap up a losing season for them before they get to the Egg Bowl.nkemdiche_smash wrote:New to the board. Mullen worked the Countdown to the Egg Bowl successfully against Nutt and it worked mainly because Nutt wasn't trying at all the last two years. Freeze, on the other hand, will not be doing some sort of forced gimmick regarding this game. Growing up near Oxford and being an Ole Miss fan all his life, he won't disregard the importance of the game.
Why should anyone assume that a short week doesn't set up well for us but won't affect State in this situation? If State is already 4-7, they'll be playing the spoiler role only, going nowhere post-season. If we've beaten Mizzou, we'll be playing for a 5-3 SEC record, a big New Year's Day Bowl and more recruiting momentum. We'll have every reason to play with high energy and purpose. Even if we haven't beaten Mizzou, we could still be in the running for a very nice bowl with 8 wins.
BTW, welcome to the board, nkemdiche_smash! Nice moniker for the seasons ahead!

I agree that the short week may not be an advantage, I just know that we'll be coming off an emotional game (no matter the outcome) and have three days to focus on a team that may have more to play for then we do. It could set up to where if we lose the game it is a huge disappointment, but if they lose the game it is the end of their season. Any team backed against a corner, especially against their big brother, is going to come out fighting. I also agree on your point that it is nice to have a coach that understands the importance of your in state rival. He understands what the egg bowl means for owning the in state recruits as well, and is cashing the check from last year's win already.Titles 'R Us wrote:State will be far more affected by the short week than we will. I can't imagine ever in my life saying that State scares me. First, I can't imagine them scaring me. Second, if they did I don't think that I'd admit it. With that said, State certainly has it in them to beat us. I do not personally believe that they can beat Arkansas then get ready and beat us with a short turn around. I think that they have a decision to make. They can either go all out to beat Arkansas, or they can blow Arkansas off and concentrate on preparing for us, in which case I believe that they lose to Arkansas. We have the difficult situation of preparing for a top ten team and then turning around and playing State on Thursday. If State blows off Arkansas and concentrates solely on us, which is very like them to do, then we just may be in trouble, but that doesn't scare me.
